i have to say somthing about this even tho its nearly 3 weeks later. yes it does. Think its a stimulant. it stimulants you to tolorate shooting police and or hookers. its the same as treating a mock election like it doesn't matter and when you bribe people to vote for you no-one says anything even tho everyone and their mom knows you did so, it teaches the person that bribry is fair, even tho no-one promised fair it should be given.......its

tolerance

i don't think that video cause violence. the kid has to be thinking about doing this before he/she dose it. the act is probly a lot harder than just playing with meanig less charictors.

I once heard someone blame GTA for kids stealing cars. That's even worse than blaming it for shooting people. You press a button to yank someone out of their car in GTA. It's a little harder in real life, what with door locks and seatbelts and lack of keys and whatnot...

How come we don't see paintballers going in and shooting up schools? Not only is that more realistic then a video game, but you actually have the gun in your hand. I mean, I've been paintballing for a few years now, and we don't have massive shooting fests with real guns. It's multiple times more violent then GTA or Quake, but it's not making people kill things.

Same deal for airsoft. I carry a airsoft rifle that looks like an M-16A2 with red dot and silencer. Me and buddies all have ultra-realsitic gear and all the teams work in a paramilitary manner. We have ex-soldiers all over the place and we all have excellent skills. Why hasn't one of my buds knocked down a bank or shot up my HS yet?

Yeah I fully load myself up with Flashbangs and the 5 - 1 counterstrike machine gun, and then I go out and pwn some noobs. Then when I get shot by police, I respawn and do it all over again. Big Grin

Oh please.
Video games do not cause violence.

Let's think about this.

Rockstar Studios releases a video game concerning hookers, guns, and almost completely unrealistic physics. Everyone is up in arms that this is going to be the apocalypse of western civilization.

Valve and Counter-Strike, with it's also unrealistic physics, lack of actual training in the game, and out-there scenarios with people pulling headshots while jumping up, gets everyone afraid of the next killer.

However, the U.S. Army releases an ultra-realistic shooter like America's Army, that has realistic physics, teaches teamwork and cooperation, and it's viewed as good family-fun time?

How come we don't see paintballers going in and shooting up schools? Not only is that more realistic then a video game, but you actually have the gun in your hand. I mean, I've been paintballing for a few years now, and we don't have massive shooting fests with real guns. It's multiple times more violent then GTA or Quake, but it's not making people kill things.

Cheated the way from fringe to elite. Clique of stylists, rounded illogic skipping a beat to a dead cert. By lheaving charges and bursting the abscess, with a forked toungue, bloated with courage and spewing self-importance. Drop your sights, aim lower, leave umblemished those with real power.

Violence in media does not cause violence in children, but it may exacerbate a problem that may already exist.

If a well-adjusted child were to play a shooting game, and is able to tell the difference between real life and fantasy, there is no problem.

But if a child who already has problems and cannot determine the difference between real life and fantasy were to play a shooting game, that may trigger a violent episode.

In the end, violent video games aren't exactly the healthiest thing you could take part in - but also no harm done if you are a well-adjusted individual.

Here's a crazy idea, why don't we blame the person instead of the music, game, movie, or book?

Besides, dodgeball doesn't make me want to throw shit at people on the street, so why would GTA make me want to steal a school bus and drive it into old ladies?

Because old ladies are so amazingly hatefull I can't believe no one wants to run them over.
No seriously, psychologists have established that videogames don't lead to violent condunct, and that individuals prone to extreme violence almost allways suffer some form of mental illness. Not knowing how to distinguish what is real and what isn't is called schitzophrenia, not Counter Strike.

If your kid thinks he/she can take a car and slam into hookers, you failed somewhere. GTA did its job; it entertained. You failed at drawing the line between fantasy and reality, as a parent.

Video games get bashed because they are "first person action" type scenarios. *I* shoot people in helicopters, *I* can have sex with a hooker, beat her up and get my money back, *I* can go into a pseudo-Iraq and kill as many people as I want. Movies, however, are voyeuristic pleasures. I watch someone ELSE do those things. It's very different.

Besides, dodgeball doesn't make me want to throw shit at people on the street, so why would GTA make me want to steal a school bus and drive it into old ladies?

I have a ton of friends who play those shoot em up games, and, as far as I know, none of them have killed anyone.
