i love video games. hell who doesnt? the only type of video game that i think is somewhat (and i mean a slim somewhat) a problem are racing games. im a huge fan of racing games but i see too many young teens, fresh with a drivers license and just got done playing NFS: Carbon, driving like complete jack-offs.

Yes, God of War just makes me want to rip people's arms off. It's the game that makes me this way. Not all the moronic bipedal monkeys of the world continuously pissing me off.

There was an interesting study done five years ago, here's the url http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2002Jul/gam20020709015292.htmBasically states people who play excessively lose creativity, the ability to socialize and increased irritation. There's probably criticism about this... most likely by neurologists that get paychecks from game makers. Video games probably increase the chance of someone lashing out, but I doubt they are the root cause of it.

Video games don't kill. Unstable individuals with access to weapons kill. I've played shooter video games the majority of my life and I have yet to do any of that in real life. Why? Because I have the mental capacity to differentiate between the game and real life. People who do not have that capacity are the ones who most often commit violent acts similar to what they see in games. Those people are either children (who shouldn't be playing teen and mature rated games, which are rated as such for a reason) or already unstable people (who would probably kill someone anyways). But for normal, mature gamers, video games do little more than stimulate the mind and improve eye-hand coordination.

My mom is convinced that they do. She always warns me and and my brother every time she sees us playing video games. I'm a pretty peaceful person...but then again the games I played weren't even that violent.

The answer is no. Violent video games only make worse previous problems with violence in a child's life. I have proof and months of research behind this, as it was my High School thesis, but the paper was never put online, so I would have to find it, and copy/paste it. If anybody is still interested in this, just post here and let me know, as I am not going to go through all the trouble for nothing.

personally i dont think that video games cause violence at school or anywhere for that matter. i think that the reason kids act out alot at school is maybe cuz they are having trouble with their friends, or family. i hate that ppl try to say that video games are the reason for violence because honestly i dont think it is.

I believe that in the wrong hands yes video games cause more violent behavior. Most people don't even realize that they are thinking about the game when they are daydreaming but they do. i am trying to tell people how to feel thoose are just my thoughts on the subject.

I think it's more of parenting. If parents teach their kids that there will violence, no matter where they look and that they should not imitate it, then violence produced from video games shouldn't be so high. I think some kids view violence as cool, especially when blood spurts everywhere. Some people think that way. And some people aren't there to dissuade them from those thoughts.

What a coincedience, there was an article about this very topic in my local newspaper. Think about this for a moment, Japan invented video games and most video games are released there first, yet Japan has much less gun violence than we do. (see the documentary Bowling for Columbine for more info on this) And here's another TV violence fact, a typical child watches 28 hours of TV a week and sees 8,000 murders by the time he/she finishes elementary school. Even worse, the killers get away with the crime 75% of the time and show no remorse. It desensitizes kids. Something we all should look out for with children is animal abuse. Jeffery Dahmer, "The Iceman" and the teens who committed the Columbine school shooting all abused and killed animals as children and in thir teens. A child who tortures an animal with no remorse could be a sign of trouble ahead if the behavior isn't stopped or repremanded. If you see a kid torturing an animal, don't walk away and pretend it isn't there, if something isn't done at an early age, there could be grave consecuences. (sp?)

No. As I've said before, if media effects every decision you make (especially a big one like committing an act of violence) then I think you need to get a life. We are humans and, by being human, we have the ability to make our own choices. A guy from a video game doesn't come out of my TV, hand me a gun, and tell me to shoot someone. It's just a game. It's not real. For people who don't understand that then, yes, of course it will effect them because they need to seek counseling for not knowing the difference between fantasy and reality. But for the average every day person, it doesn't cause violence. The games already have ratings on them---if a parent doesn't want the kid to buy it he/she should moniter what the kid buys more carefully. Nothing else needs to be done as this is the kid's responsibility (to know fantasy from reality) and the parent's responsibility (to teach the kid fantasy from reality and moniter the games they buy).
