Well from my understanding, preps are popular, and dress nice. Punks dress in band shirt and act stupid. Well that's not really what I think, but it's just the overall label that everyone deep in their mind thinks. I personally think Preps and Punks are different in the clothes they wear and that's it. I don't think that they act different or anything. Preps dress in Abercrombie, Hollister, Sean John, Ecko, that kinda thing. Punks dress in Band Shirts like System of A Down, Puddle of Mudd, Chevelle, all those type of Punk bands. What is the TRUE definition of Punk and Prep?

Why do we need to label each other as such?
Punk.... Prep.....Goth....Emo....whatever...

It is unnecessary. All labels do is give people boxes to put others in. Until we can destroy the box and accept people for who they are, then the labels will always be there. The Difference between punk and prep?
They just have different boxes people put them in.

Wow! What happened to the more simple times when you were either punk or a hippie. (I blame the 80s' New Wave for the whole "preppy" thing). Anyways...
Why should there be a label? That's just lame. And for the record, you can't be hip-hop... you can't be emo [oh, see my contradiction?]... you can't be punk... YOU CAN'T BE A MUSIC GENRE! That's even more ridiculous.

It's sad how we live in a world where we're constantly judged on how we dress, what music we listen to, and which people you talk to. Why can't we stop segregating ourselves into these stupid cliques? It just tears us apart. And all these stereotypes everyone keeps listing, I hope you're just joking. This subject can't be taken seriously to begin with.

P.S.Where I live, the "punks" and "preps" communicate with each other. So that kicks your cliches in the ass.
P.S.S. System of a Down, Puddle of Mudd, and Chevelle are alternative... not even a subgenre of punk. Check out: Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, The Misfits, Iggy Pop and The Stooges. Musically educate yourself...

But I don't understand how's it possible to live... love... secretly.

Oh by the way, let me add something. At my school, The Preppies and the Punks hang out. There should be no separation. It make for some interesting convo.

Maybe we should be called the Prunks or the Pruppies...

I Think there are differences but I don't completely agree with everybody who commented before me. Am I any less of a punk because I like Abercombie Jeans? Any less of a Prep because I shop at Hot topic? What If I shop at neither? Punks & Preps are outspoken. They are mostly just out spoken about different things. I mean if a punk becomes vegetarian, every body says their rebelling. If a Prep does that, everybody thinks that their just trying to lose weight or something.

You can't really group people. I mean, I listen to Nirvana and all those Punk/Goth/Emo bands and I can't stand Hilary Duff and those bubble gum singers. But I love sweater vests and plaid and shit. None of my friends are Prep, and I am by no way rich or materialistic. In fact, materialism is against my religion and I rebel against that!

Half the time people can't tell whether I'm punk or prep or some weird new subspecies. I dress like a prep but act like a punk. I don't curse or act stupid or anything but then, not all punks do. At the same time I'm not all ups for authority and my grades suck ass. What I'm really saying is, label if you want, but what about those who just don't fit in any label? Are we going to come up with a new group? The in-betweens? You can't label everything. Not every punk is the same. Not every prep is the same. If you choose to label yourself and others. Your lame (Very Prep Phrase) or You Suck (Very Punk Phrase)

The Differece Between Punks & Preps Is Clear, Its not about how you dress its how you act. You cant just say "all punks act stupid" because you cant just put everyone in one catagory, everyone is different, that was just a fools move on MissionHALO's part. plus i dont care if your a prep, fuck you.
You Cant Just Say "Well Preps Dress Nice & Act Nice But Punks Dress In Band Tshirts And Act Stupid" Pfft Please.
Preps Are Just People Who Are Rich& Act Like There All That& Care What People Thing About Them. Punks Just Dont Care. Then again using labels in general is pretty gay, to judge someone based on how they dress, is pretty childish.

I have often wondered this myself. In my eyes preps are alot like what thedebator says. materialistic and they think with money. "punk" is a differnt way of life i think. i really dont think it has anything to do with how they dress. but that is were people get the stereotype. i am not positive but i belive that a punk could were hollister or a prep could were a band tee-shirt. its all in the attitude.

wow i feel like this is an emo contest! Im friends with alot of both types. Punks are just people that have a differnt way of thinking. Ex. Tend to be more intune with the world and people.

Preps. love material things and think they can buy people. Tend to careless about the world. Ex. these are the people who are balding when they hit 19

I like Nirvana...but I'm no punk.

Punks are people who claim to be punks. You never hear of someone proudly proclaiming to be a prep. No, they just show it off with sweater-vests and plaid golf shorts. And popped collars, although I knew a lot of non-preps who wore their shirts like that...

I also think it's kind of funny how punks in high school dress a certain way in order to be rebellious, but when they hit college, they dress normally and join Greenpeace or something. Rebelliousness in high school is a lot different than it is in college, it would seem.

The more you know, the less you don't know.
