Why is it that all the time people IM you. Some times you don't even know who they are, and for that matter how they got your screen name. Then they want to know all this stuff about you like:
Where do you live? How old are you? Or even more common do you have a bf or gf? What exactly should you say or should you just not say anything and just block them? You never know who it could be and even if they told you how do you know if they are telling the truth, I mean you can't see there face. All I'm wondering is if this happens to any one else and if so what do you do about it?

I think it can be fun and safe (most of the time) to talk to people you don't know...but you really shouldn't give out personal information or city. If they're prying you for information, block them. You shouldn't have to feel pressured to give specifications.

This is what I say when stangers ask me personal questions over the net: Cool

Name: I'm not going to tell you my real name but for now let's pretend it's (any name I choose).

Where do you live: East coast of the U.S.

Can you be more specific: No.

How old are you: I tell them the truth (17).

Are you single: No, I'm engaged.

Are you straight/bi/gay: I'm straight but I really do not want to talk about sexuality with you.

People get your s/n through searches. If you really don't want to talk to a certain person on IM there are ways you can block them. Does this help anyone?

Okay, Okay....I know it can be frightening to get IMs from people you don't know, but this event can actually be controlled. When you sign up for an IM account, you have the option of NOT being in the member directory. You just have to watch and pay attention when it asks you if you want to be in the member directory. And about being asked stuff, as long as you stick to what I do, which is answer asl, you are fine. I mean even if this person who says they're 15 is really some 47 year old freak, what are they gonna do, come to ohio and ask for a 13 year old girl? As long as you don't tell the town you live in, they can't really find you. I also tell every person I chat with that I am not looking for a gf/bf online, and if they have any opposition, I block them. I personally like getting IMs from strangers....It's a way to escape your life and just have fun. Wink

No I think you're the one who needs to stop playing around for all you know i may never have gone to a dance or even had this screename at the time. Bye bye

I block them and then someone else IM's me and says I made them sad I don't even give them a chance. They like to come in pairs, especially the ones who are just bored pranksters.
Don't ever give them info it's best to see if they're someone you know and if not and they can't tell you who gave them the sn and you can't check with that person just block them and tell your friends to mind %n

Don't answer the IM, block it. Change your sn. My friend from school does this, he makes random sn's and jokes around. But he always has the same number at the end, so I know it's him.

If, I do answer the IM, I do lie. If they ask where I'm from I would say like... "Clovis, CA". I don't have a problem with the age questions, or state, but what city, your phone number, address?! (I have had people ask me that.) Come on.
