Veggiechick,

Can I say something, the truth is, women although things have been made more equal are not yet in equal standing with men. Men still make more money, still get better jobs ect. If you don't believe me just look around you. Saying that women are now equal to men is a lie. This is for a number of different reasons though, women who have children and take leaves in the middle of their careers and educations, and that prevents them from doing as well in the work force.

I'm not saying that women are worth less then men, in reality men and women are equal. What I'm saying is that you Veggie are being sexist in a way you probably haven't thought about. Women do a lot of work outside of the work force, that work is just as valuable as having a caree, just because a woman does not seem like a prodructive member of society because they don't make money or work, doesn't mean they aren't doing an amazing job in other fields that society deems as less important.

To say that women can see themselves as equal once they have equal chances in society (I'm not saying this isn't important because it is) is missing a huge part of what feminism should be represnting, which is recognition for the things women do outside of the work place. Raising children is an important contributing factor to society, and shouldn't be treated as less.

I would also like to point out that it is totally possible for men to take the role of child rearing, and I have a lot of respect for what they do, but they also run into the same problems as women who stay at home do, their contribution to society, because it doesn't contribute to the tax base, isn't as valued.

Sleep now, and rest your head, in the morning you'll be dead, no don't cry, please don't dread, cause life is only one path we tread.

equal pay (for the most part)

You can be a woman with a Master's degree and earn less than a man with a Bachelor's degree.

In 2000, women earned 73% of what men earned. In 1960, women earned 60.7% of what men earned. Less than 13% gain in 40 years isn't that great, and I'm fairly positive we aren't at 100% yet, probably not even in the 90s percent wise.

(My source is an article called "The Wage Gap" by the National Committee on Pay Equity. I can't link you to the actual article because it's through my school's library website.)

It's too bad you're forced to resort to pathetic personal attacks; it real shows a lack of character. As far as my sinking dowm to your level to reply, I'll just leave it here.

But seriorsly ladies. We have struggled so hard in the last century for our rights. We've gained sufferage, equal pay (for the most part), higher education, and risen to positions of power, to name a few. I'm amazed at the number of women who think men are better than us. There are so many distinguished women writers, lawyers, politicians, etc.; women with degrees and ambition. But we still face many barriers, many created by women. Sexuality is one of them. A woman who enjoys having sex is not objectifying herself, she is not a slut. It is women, misled women, who steryotype her as such. We need to start a dialogue, to educate other women. And a dialogue is hardly complaining.

If you honestly think encouraging sexual behavior is empowering for us, you're sadly mistaken. It only creates more stereotypes and gives sexist pigs the fuel they want.

Now that woman have the same opportunities men have always had, we are finally in a position to make things happen.

Women have had their freedom for almost a century. What exactly have we done in that century? Nothing important. In a century, men have literally moved mountains. I don't know what women are waiting for. They, like you, are just sitting at their computers going on the internets and whining about how men are sooo oppressive. That whining also gives sexist pigs fuel. If you wish to battle sexism, go do something proactive.

Women's sexuality is often based on a man's perspective, that women are either innocent or sluts. Clearly you share this perspective. No woman is a ever slut. You said that, not me. And, I was JOKING when I said that, hence the lol.

Yes, I did say it. I believe women who sleep around or who are not secretive about their sexuality just to make a statement are not doing anything important, other than objectifying themselves and the rest of the female population. In other words, all they are doing is advertising themselves as sex objects. It's pathetic that you insist on defending that, while at the same time trying to fight sexism.

I can't belive you would type this, and then have the tenacity to accuse me of being sexist.

Is it not true? You never think about boys? You've proven otherwise many times.

No offense, but I really don't think women are the brightest bunch. I don't care if they go to college. I saw this girl on Dr. Phil who had a master's degree in Criminology, yet she thought binge drinking and driving wasn't dangerous. There is only a small handful of truly intelligent females on YN, and you're not one of them.

Veggie, shut the hell up. Get an engineering degree and invent something. Something women don't do, because they're too busy thinking about men and babies...

It is just a fact the men have done more for the world, both negative and positive, than women ever will. Women just like to sit around and bitch about men being sexist, while sitting on their asses and doing nothing. I think it's lame that there aren't very many female video game artists. So, I picked up a pencil, started drawing, now I'm in art school going for a degree in Illustration. Did Susan B. Anthony sit around and complain? No! She got up, shattered stereotypes and changed America.

You sicken me veggiechick, simply because you come here and whine about sexism, yet in other threads you either knowingly or unknowingly, enforce those stereotypes and thus perpetuate sexism.

Any asshole that thinks women are just sluts who should be having their babies, just had there ideals confirmed. That statement was also really sexist, as you just downgraded our worth. Good job.

lets face it.. we all know it all of the grand slams in tennis pay men considerably more than the womens. its just a fact... the reason its always like this is because men could overpower women easy i mean not to be sexist or anything just facting women could be as smart as men however why are most nba officals or other things men? why hasnt any president been a women? girls give men pleasure and kitchenize while the men make the inventions labor and bring food to the table

not a sexist here

Is that last part a joke? The reason sports officials are mainly men is because more men that women like pointless things like sports. Women are out taking care of things that matter. And there hasn't been a woman president yet because of sexist bastards like you. You know what? Women are more likely to graduate high school, go to college and finish college than men. Currently there are more women attending college than men. I honestly hope you are joking when you say this, because it's attitudes like this that women have had to fight throughout time.

people also typically like watching men play sports i mean who wouldnt? the games are obviously alot funner to watch... and another fact that proves women well are less than men is that in every sport men are alot better women were made for the easy stuff my professor, at harvard, obviously is a sexist he outlashes women every day the only reason we dont go back to the old system is because the congress and president need the votes from the women.... sorry gals

That professor needs to be FIRED! And if I was there I would lead the fight. Mens sports are not "obviously more fun to watch", it's sexist pigs like you that make men's sports more popular.

You are an embarrasment to society, in4ar3d. And there is no way you go to Harvard, you construct your sentenses like a 3rd grader.

This is one topic that i am all for.
It upsets me that a lot of you on this board actually do think men are better than women. The fact that you think women are meant to do the east stuff. If you look back in history to the time of the cavePEOPLE and such, you would learn that the women went out and looked for food. Women are the ones that have to pop out you men and undergo grueling hours of labor. It's not fair that women are looked at as toys for men or pure entertainment and its even worse that some women let themselves be kicked around that way.

The simplest things are forms of misogamy. For example, in my gym class when we play soccer, us girls are always forced to play as goalies so the boys can go out and shoot out goals and look like heroes. However, I refuse to be goalie and if we don't have one and lose the game, so be it. I won't stoop down to make some men feel superior to me.

To the original poster:

Did you know that times have changed? Just tell'em that. You wear pants and miniskirts. They aren't complaining about that, now, are they? I don't...

Now, to reply to the last/most recent poster, you're making generalizations. Not all of us are immature. I've been called too professional and serious.

And before anyone goes ballistic about guys being against feminists, not that I personally am, try being in the "brotherhood" for a day.

How can guys think they are better? They're immature and babyish if they think they are better than women. The thought that all feminists are lesbians is horrible because some women are trying to stick up for their sex because men are putting them down. Its disgusting! I wish boys could be more open-minded about that.

Yeah I'll admit there is a lot of sexism when it comes to girls and sports.

I know what you mean. I am one of seven girls in my gym class and I remember a guy once made a comment when we were running that went something like 'Come on, Ladies' (He was talking to the guys). I was the only girl participating that day and I had to run as fast as I possibly could just to prove that seemingly innocent comment wrong.

NO CAPS. Seriously, don't post in all caps.

And women are afraid theoir teenage boyfriend will beat them? Perhaps they should breakup then. I don't know of any teenager couples that hit each other.I only see that happen in marriages.

And on actual sexism. i never see it really happen. In gym, girls do get stereotyped. People assume girls won't do well at sports, but you must admit, there are alot of girl who don't care. It's like any stereotype.

that's what i don't get. why is there a double-standard anyways? we all know that everyone is different, no matter what gender.
