I understand how you feel Xavi. I have a lot of rage and anger, even hatred, for certain people I come across, and sometimes I feel it so strongly that I wish I could hurt them in some way. It really scares me, and makes me wonder about what kind of person I really came, or could be. (See the topic HATE in "Ending the -isms.")

And to Marine: I don't think you understand what it is to live with people telling you you are inferior for something you can't really change (without surgery anyway :P), like your skin color or sex organs. You think that everyone who is bashed for these reasons should shut up and get back in line, don't you? Well I will not become silent and passive and spineless; this is a free country, and I have a right as a citizen of this country to voice my outrage at people who try to hold me back. And, by the way, affirmative action for women is decreasing in many areas, such as in universities... not that I really support affirmative action in the first place...

Point taken... I really didn't mean that they ahd to be hurt, but... I am sick and tired of those manjy *** holes ****** around.

It boosts alot of their ego's, and that is one of the main reasons they do it. A good person who didn't care about ego wouldn't have this kinda problems. The Jerks (a good term for them) all do it to make themselves feel better, cause they themselves are worthless.

eek big suprise, eh?

"Why should women let the problem grow worse and worse until they are reduced to slave status?" I would like to see your logic in suggesting you will be slaves if this "egging" continues in their classroom.

As for minorities being harrassed. We all get made fun of. But as long as they have equal rights, just like you there is no problem. And how about, instead of *****ing about their problems, why don't they go to the police? Why don't you that? Oh wait, you don't go to the police because there is no problem.

" If people are told over and over that they are worthless and can't do crap, they begin to believe it's true" Only the weak minded.

""Biting the bullet" is what women have done for thousands of years, and its time that we stopped being a silent majority" i guess your school never taught you about woman's lib.

"This is America, I should have just as much opportunity as males" Ever hear of affirmative action? It works for women as well as minorities. So because of that, you have more oppurtunites than males who are just as qualified as you.

Thanks for the support, but I must say that you seem to have some, er, anger issues. True, jerks such as these make me p i s s ed off to no end, but flogging them or shooting them won't solve much; most likely we'll have big crowds of angry sexist and homophobic jerks attacking women and gay men in retaliation. frown

I agree with you, it is disgusting. But trust me, all guys aren't like that.

I, for one, respect female's moving out intot he world. My mother works hard every day, from 10 AM till 9 PM, trying to support a 6 person family. Women are very essential to this world, and they are NOT only needed for pleasure/procreation.

Any one who thinks that should be drug out into the streets and flogged.

Femenists are people who are tired of dealing with over repressive males, the 'jerks' who have their heads shoved so far up their own... butts... they cannot see the light of day.

These people (the jerks) need to be flogged, if not SHOT.

I am not a femenist (being that I am a male), but I still support womens rights.

Main reason you ask? Most women support Gay Rights. big grin

I agree that what some males say is wrong, but I also know that not all guys are like that. And I, too, want to fight for equality in this world.
For years women have called guys jerks because of how they act. So if you "want them to have a taste of their own medicine" what does that make you??

just talk about how boys are.... whatever you think will make them just as uncomfortable as the girls. They won't like it at all, and maybe they'll see that they're wrong. But the main thing is that it'll be fun to see them twitch as you feed them their own medicine.

I think it is terrible, what some guys says about girls, about how we should stay in the kitchens, and how we should not have the same rights as them. And I am getting tired of being split in gym class from the boys. But what bothers me now is what some girls are saying about the boys. They are being just as bad, saying that all guys are jerks, that they are stupid, yet they ask for the respect from the guys. NO IT DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT PEOPLE, it goes two ways.

Sorry, I live in Britain so I guess I have a different perspective on it, over here we have had a female prime minister (Margaret Thatcher), although there isn't as many female Members of Parliament as there are male, which is unfair but things are changing. And as far as I know there's equality in terms of jobs (I did my work experience recently (in a publishers) and everyone in my department were women). And every advert with couples in it on tv that I see takes the **** out of men… so I do think sexism works both ways.

But redjill you are missing my point, why do you even care what they say, they are a dying breed. This is what i mean when you take it too seriously. If you have a problem with women not having the same rights as men then these high school losers are not the ones that you want to be dealing with.I think part of the problem with this is that a lot of women want to have the same rights as men,yet still want to be treated like ladies with men opening doors and making special exceptions like that for them,it is unfair to say that they should deserve both.

Uh... don't you know that women get $.25 less for every dollar a man earns for doing the same job? I really don't like it when people say everyone is equal now, because that simply isn't true. Have we ever had a female president, or even vice-president? No... One might as well say, "there is no more racism in America, everyone is equal now." We haven't had any non-white presidents or vice-presidents either... red face

I knew when I saw this topic there'd be a good argument going. This is my take on it:

Papasmurf was deliberately trying to wind you all up (and succeeded)

Responding with insults to the male sex is slightly hypocritical (as this is a topic about sexism)…

I think sexism is just about equal between male and female these days. For every boy who says all women belong in the kitchen, there is a girl who says all men are lazy pigs…

We have equal opportunities now, so I don't see how there's anything to discuss really. There is always going to be stupid comments but I think you are blowing things out of proportion a little… Be thankful ye don't live in Afghanistan, folks!

Men are finaly begining to understand that if they don't allow us to get respect...WELL THEN THATS TOO BAD BCUZ THEN WE WILL WANT TO! AND WILL EARN RESPECT.I respect all men and boys....but no man or boy has ever disrespected me...I am a young woman who canstand upp for myself and I am inteligence ...now every woman and girl in this world is intelligence...if you don't like them disrespecting you then why dont u tell them....why don't u talk to them and make fun of them...say how they r the ones who r going to end up in the kitchen if they keep talking like that...also they will wake up alone for the rest of theyr lives....No man has the right to say otherwise ....find a guy friend who respects u...respect him and have him help u talk to the guys ir teachers in your school...trust me the boys will never bug again!

I don't think you guys understand. For one thing, I don't belittle men, and I think there should be a line drawn at that as well (at least not as much as I used to, say, in 6th grade). For another, it's not just "joking." It's saying that women are good as maids, babymakers, and a set of holes and skin for men to play around with. It's about insulting my views as a feminist, spreading things that aren't true (the stupid lesbian thing, for example). It's called sexism, and its a term found in the dictionary. Some (notice I said SOME) males seem to think that if a type of discrimination doesn't affect males, it doesn't exist. This just really ticks me off...

Ever notice how almost every comercial with a group of women in it ends up belittling men? Have a little patience. If you wanna know something about intolerence read Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin, the people in that book really meant it.

Why do you even care about what they say if its foolish things like that. They are making men look bad just as women who say things like to think they have control over men(and vocalise it),I believe that both sexes are just as bad as each other at this type of thing,I have seen girls say really bad things about men when they go off in their little groups behind mens backs.Maybe these guys are just joking and you are taking it too seriously ,an easy way to diffuse this situation would be to joke back at them mildy and not get up in thier face.

It doesn't matter Marine. Why should women let the problem grow worse and worse until they are reduced to slave status? You might as well say that people who are harassed because of race should "bite the bullet," and do nothing. I have a right to speak out against boys like this, and I will exercise this right, and I encourage other women to do the same. If we "bite the bullet," women will be proving men right, that we are too "weak" to stand up for ourselves. And in the long run, it presents an even greater problem. Young women and girls may start to think that these boys are right; I admit, I have thought this way myself, and even still do at times, when I get depressed. I think, "If only I were male, I would be able to be more respected and make a difference." If people are told over and over that they are worthless and can't do crap, they begin to believe it's true. But even I won't stand for being made to feel inferior. Here I am trying to rally girls and women to believe that they shouldn't put up with these little power-tripping boys, and should say, "Hey! This is America, I should have just as much opportunity as males! And aren't I a person too?!"

"Biting the bullet" is what women have done for thousands of years, and its time that we stopped being a silent majority (yes, women do often represent a majority of the population at times), and started speaking out as all people should be able to do

I am confussed,, jill. Do these boys take away your right to vote? Do these boys not allow you to work in any job they can? Do these boys physically make you stay home and cook and clean? If they do, you have a seriiuus problem on your hands and you should take them to court.

But that won't be nessecary because I know the answers to all those questions is no. This is not a big deal. You should bite the bullet.
