They should stop selling junkfood period, if they want to reduce obiesity.
Selling chips but not soda is like those people who say "I'm on a diet", go to McDonalds and order the whole left side of the menue and a small diet coke. Oh yeah, like that's gonna help! Razz
Stop selling Junkfood, soda, and unhealthy portions of anything. Not juts in schools, but everywhere. Then the obiesity rate willl go down.
But they'll never do that because people will sue. Stupid lawsuits Mad

Its illegal to sell Soda at my school too but, they still do it. The only time they turn the machines off is at lunch but they keep the machine with just juice and water in it on. So, that law is absolutely useless.

Isn't it the other way around? Isn't taking the pop machines away giving the parents the choice to give it to their kids or not?

Lots of love,

lol Joey, you can't really say that...I'm homeschooled...

and it's SODA POP. haha

So this whole idea is getting the thumbs-down from everyone? yeah I thoguht so too, though I can see where they're coming from. My greatest fault, being able to see both sides of the issue. But I mean, seeing as so many people are obese, how far can the government go to establish that we're all healthy? I mean we blame the government for everything, but are they really the ones lying around drinking soda (pop)and popcorn, doing nothing but gaining weight. That's us, America. Maybe it's like parents taking care of kids. We whine about it, but the more we resist the harder it gets. It's almost exactly the same with America and the government.

Lots of love,
Lynne

we're not allowed to have food and drink in the halls, yet the school puts pop machines in the middle of the halls. hooray for being hypocritical.

it's okay, but i don't buy pop from the machines at school.

and it's pop, people. not soda.

having so many obese people in this country is pretty pathetic. on the other hand, having to resort to banning vending machines to try to temper rising obesity rates is even more pathetic.

maybe we should install treadmills/gerbil wheels in the classroom.

Hmm.. well, my school has about 20 vending machines distributed throughout campus. A large percentage of the profits go to the school, which seems reasonable.

Most people can eat snacks/drink water in class, but soda must be kept outside of the classroom.

It seems fair to me. We have plenty of liberties, such as an open campus and plenty of time in between class, though we have to wear identification cards, which is understandable.

As long as you don't live at school, I'm sure you'll be able to cope with no vending machines. Personally, I don’t use them regularly, but they are convenient, heh.

Lynne, my guess is that you're in a government-run school.

...when will all this end? Parents have no say so in anything their children do in school, and that's the sickest part.

Yeah, little kids are hyper.
Government: Ritalin will help that.

Yeah, flip-flops are comfortable.
Government: You can't wear those.

Yeah, your $3,000 in property taxes must go to THIS specific school district.
Government: And ONLY that school district. No other.

This is ridiculous folks. I don't need some government agency telling MY kids, or my friends, what they can and cannot eat.

But hey, it's a "democracy," right? Majority rules.
