Actually, I would rather have expresso machines in my school than soda ones, but no matter how many times I tell my principle about my request, he doesn't listen to me, so I have to settle for soda.

i have different feelings on that. It could be that the school county just doesn't have enough money so they figured taking away the soda machine will help, but i dont think thats it. In a study it showed that 1 out of 4 kids are overweigt, and most of the kids are fat due to soda. I really dont like soda so it wouldnt affect people like me, but if they cared that much about taking away soda machines, you would have thought they would have hired the price first, besides, how much soda do kids actually have in school? I personally think thats a really stupid idea to get rid of the soda machines.

The middle school I was in has soda machines but they were in the teachers lounge. From personal experience I know students weren't allowed, but if you knew someone like I did,you could sneak in and get a soda without getting in trouble. Plus,if someone is obese,it's their choice to lose wieght not the states!!

I do not think that your school is making the right decision. Soda is not illegal and it cannot "make" you fat if you drink it in moderation. You should seriously fight this issue even if you do not drink soda anyway.

I totally think that there should be no soda sold in school because the numbers of obese children in england is rising and in my opinion much of it is to do with fizzy drinks. If they do sell it it should be diet. In the uk they are trying to pass a law which says no soda in schools which i totally agree with. i think its stupid that in the life studies lessons they teach us not to drink sugary drinks or eat too many sweets because they will rot our teeth and make us fat but then they go and have the school tuck shop (candy shop) and the soda machines. oh and 1 more think, that one extra can of soda we have each day causes 60% of our obesity.

This reminds me of the proposal to put a tax on junk food (packaged food with saturated fat). Anyway I don't think banning soda machines should be a law. But I would actually support a school that chose not to sell soda. They could have the same machines but with water and juice. quote: If the soda machines are not there they are everywhere else so does it really matter?
Exactly. Soda machines are everywhere so why do they need to be at school? The schools seems to be promoting a very unhealthy and sugary drink. We don't NEED soda. Since soda machines are everywhere, the minute school gets out, you can go find yourself a coke. Anyway to come back to the real issue, I agree with most of you. State legislature should not ban schools from selling soda. My reasoning is a bit different though. Selling soda is a school's choice; it is not for a state to decide what can and cannot be sold in term of food and drink on school grounds.

The school board needs to stay out of health like that. If the soda machines are not there they are everywhere else so does it really matter? ~PEACE~

I think the idea is totally unrealistic, it would be better to get students doing more exercise. There are of course benefits of staying fit and healthy but not allowing children to buy soft drinks will not bring these about.

I hate it when the schools try and control everything. I heard that some schools were sending out letters to parents who thought that their kids were too fat. They said because "they were at risk of obesity". Well dont you think that the parents would figure that out on their own?? They're not stupid. And sodas help most kids think better. They make all of us wake up at 6am, dont you think we would need a little boost to help us think? The schools need to start thinking from our point of view.

no soda at my school... the cafeteria makes money off iced tea and stuff and they're high in sugar and stuff. the school worries about the things goin in our bodies and the tea is just as bad as soda. but there are people who litter the school grounds with the tea caps and they think if the had soda, you'd see soda cans everywhere too. soda machines would be a convience to people who can't go the cafe to get drinks. but hey, we have other things to worry about...

lol It's funny reading the different versions of words for Cokes/Dr. Peppers/etc. "Pop." "Soda." lol That's hilarious I think. Anyway, this is what I wanted to counter: quote: Stop selling Junkfood, soda, and unhealthy portions of anything.
Or, just stop worrying what the hell me, or anyone else eats and drinks Sorry if this sounds harsh, but damn, personal responsibility people. If I want to eat and get fat, let me. If you aren't affected by it, then mind your own damn business. As for me, I am very proud of finally tipping 140 on the scales...I've waited 3 1/2 years to get past 138 -- 138!

Why do schools and sometimes people always do the idiotic thing? Like turning the machines off at lunch, the only time kids can actually buy it...

quote: The only time they turn the machines off is at lunch
My school does that too! And it makes me so angry, because my teachers also won't let me go to the cafeteria during the morning or late afternoon, when lunch is over, to go get a soda. I'm not sure why we even have a soda machine, as the only time it's on is when people can't get into the cafeteria. How can they be making money off of that? But I think the no gum in school is completely idiotic. Who actually obeys that rule?
