I'm interested in learning a language on my own. I am currently taking Spanish in school, but I'm looking to also learn a less traditional language (aka not french or spanish). I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the easiest or best language to learn. I was thinkign maybe one of the more german based languages, but I don't know much about them. I really wish my school offered a variety of languages. We have only french and spanish and the accrediting board advised us to drop the french program (even though there's no way that will happen). So anyways, suggestions? Anyone take any languages that they would highly recommend? Heck, my school doesn't even teach french! We're basically forced to take Spanish since most colleges require foreign language courses. But I like Spanish...even though I haven't actually taken the class yet (I had some in elementary). I want to learn Latin first and then Gaelic, Romanian, and Finnish. I like obscure languages.

I've always loved Italian, the way it sounds and all. I took it for a year, had to quit because I didn't have the time. If you speak a little bit of Spanish it should be easy for you, because they are very similar.

German and Russian are cool, but they may not be the easiest languages to study on one's own.Maybe Italian would be better. Somebody should learn Esperanto, just so it won't entirely disappear one day.

Hm, hey well my school has about 6 spainish teachers we have 6 different spainish classes, and one german teacher who has about 3 different german classes (1,2,3). I'd go with italian, or russian, ha, i dont know why i just think they sound cool. Or latin, that could be useful.

Italian would be easy to learn after learning Spanish.
