So, me and my family, were scammed as well. We thought we were doing a good thing that was smart but, in reality it was really naive and my parents said they should of known better. Well we paid the 99.00 but, were NOT gonna pay 1000 something for nothing. So we canceled the credit card and got a new one. Now edifi is sending us letters by mail telling us to pay them by march 20,2009 or our services will be canceled. Can they sue us for not paying there fees even though they have not done ANYTHING? Can they lower my parents credit score? Thanks guys for your help!

i've never even heard of this program. Don't most guidance counselors have the info a student needs about college stuff anyways?

On Saturday 2/28/09 in Fort luaderdale, Florida I attended the workshop and got into an argument with one of their "advisors representatives" My son could not attend becuase he was taking a pre-test for ACT. but when I was hanging out in the hallway I saw a young girl and she was crying because she could not afford the fee $1195.00, even in the installment payments that EDIFI were offering. And I felt very sad seeing this. So I told her not to give up and research online and I gave her the information where my son taking a free prep test for SAT and ACT given by the public libraries. And I also gave her my number to call me and I could share with her any info I get. Well that caused a problem with the Rep that was atending them before and she came over to ask me what I was doing. And I told her that she had no business asking me what I was doing. And then she went on to say to the young girl and her aunt that I was a person of interest trying to scam them and to watch out that they (being me) going around taking peoples moneies. So I just went off on her and put her in her place in front of the entire staff because certain doors were open. I told her that the reason she is crying is because you want to charge a large fee and not help her out. She then was telling the girl and aunt that if she was that it was a problem to pay that she could have helped. And the aunt told her how. And the Rep could not answer. No one should be involved in any way using EDIFI services. They work on numbers and to make a commission. If you notice, like I did, 97% of the people were I was could qualify 100% Financial Aid, eyes closed and you do not need help or paying anyone money. They target mostly minorities where their kids have high GPAs etc. And they know that if these families could do whatever to get fiancial help, then you will pay. And all EDIFI is doing is working commission and to give you a service that you could do.

BEWARE TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO STAY AWAY FROM EDIFI!!!!

The services EDIFI supposedly provide are ones that can be found elsewhere for free. People who aren't educated about preparing for college might benefit from what they have to offer...but I can assure you, you don't need to pay out that small fortune to get information about colleges and financial aid.

I just got the same invitation, and my mom told me to look it up. This absolutely looks like a scam, or just a really unwise idea/waste of money. So don't do it, even if the invitation makes you feel good about yourself! Like everyone has said, there are plenty of comparable services that are free or a fraction of the price. Never pay more than you need to!
(And the "good" comments are so bogus; they sound completely fake.)
Best of luck to everyone with the college search and financial aid processes.

Here is why Edifi is a scam. I went to the seminar, and although I couldn't afford it, she talked me into a payment plan. Two days later, I had seconds thoughts, feeling I could not make the payments. I wrote the letter cancelling the agreement. A month later they deducted 131.00 from my account. I contacted them and was told they probably just had not processed my letter. They would refund the money as soon as they received the letter. This month they again deducted 131.00 from my account. I tried to call them and ALL of their numbers are unavailable!!!! I've had my bank cancel the automatic transactions.

It seems like EDIFI is a waste of money for most families that are college bound. For those that have a hard time figuring out the system or forms, then there may be some benefit. The scholarship help may likely work for under-represented students who have a great many opportunities available. For students from a majority background, scholarship availability will be much more difficult to find and should be handled directly and aggressively.
Save your $800 and put it toward college. There are free or inexpensive SAT & ACT prep courses.
My words of advise to anyone going to college are: the real world is a competitive playing field where you have to out-perform those around you and do your best at all you do.

ok from reading all these posts all i can say is majority rules, edifi is a scam. most say its a scam some say its worth your money but from what i read its a waste of money. i say that because if you can get a list of colleges, there estimates, and location from your counselor and financial aid from other companies for free then all your really paying for is them signing the FAFSA papers IF!!!, they really do it, oh and those people who support edifi and claim that they're helped by them are most-likely employees of the company. >> cuz if those people r real customers of edifi then its obvious to say that they help out maybe 1 out of 200 of they're customers.

So last weekend i went to the meeting. It lasted for about an hour. I was very impressed my parents paid for this service, but to tell you the truth after reading these post im starting to second guess this service, rather or not my parents just lost about $1100 , and im going to be upset. They have called me, they have sent me emails, estimates on colleges, and by Nov.1st i have to slim down my list of colleges to 5, instead of 9. They are working with my family, but i dont know rather or not its just BS...on top of my counselor just go on the announcement and said it's a scam!!! so what am i soppose to believe?

Call them right away - they will do an estimated out of pocket for all the colleges you want. It really helped me choose. quote: Originally posted by dancer2207: my parents and I went to this meeting when I was in eighth grade and they did pay the money they requested, which was like almost 1,000 dollars, but now I'm going to the 11th grade and all I have received from them is the yearly handbooks and thats about it. I don't know what to do, because I'm almost certain that this whole thing is a scam. This is really frustrating because I'm starting to look at colleges and scholarships and they supposedly said that they would be helping me out with all of this.

EDIFI filled out the whole FAFSA form for my mom. Thank god because filling that form out is like trying to do your own taxes, and my cousin got it sent back to her four times and missed her deadline. Their online test prep also helped me get a great SAT score and they did an out of pocket estimate for all 8 universities I was looking at. The program also helped me find out which universities have the most gift aid. That's one of the main reasons I chose Stanford University in California. They are an 81% gift aid school - bottom line - I won't be paying be paying $130,000 in student loans when I graduate, only 11,000. (My school costs $36,000 annual) - Thank you EDIFI and thanks mom for paying for their program for me!!!! I highly reccomend EDIFI quote: Originally posted by chikonguitar: I recieved a letter in the mail from a corporation called Edifi asking me to come to an interview free of charge because I had been selected as some one in my area to recieve finacial aid for college. First of all- it was addressed to my fake penname for on the internet and my writing.so I suspected something.when I looked on the internet I found out it was a scam. So don't go if they contacted you. They'll just try to get 800 bucks out of you at the end of the meeting.
