Okay, there are a few threads talking about homeschooling vs. public school, but so far as I have seen, none like this. This thread is for kids who are homeschooled to talk about your experiences, provide support, and share what kinds of curriculum works best for you. Also, kids who attend public school are welcome to ask us anything about homeschooling - pros, cons, whatever.

So, are there any other homeschoolers out there? Being that the beginning of the school year is almost upon us (or at least it is where I live) I thought that now would be a good time to start this discussion.

So if you work better alone then homeschooling would probably work pretty well for you, Sahn. I know what you mean about not liking to work in groups - I always hated that. Homeschooling is good because you never have to work with anyone if you don't want to.

No IG I work better alone. Whenever there is an odd number of people for groups, I volunteer to be by myself. Its easier to divide and conquer the work myself this way. I work better in groups when people depend on each other with the same amount of dependability.

Yes, I know a girl who was homeschooled who couldn't leave the house on certain days because of their religion. And Sahn, I learn better this way because I work best on my own, but if you learn better in a group then it wouldn't work as well for you.

I had a friend that was homeschooled. She hated it. That probably has nothing to do with being homeschooled though. Her mom was a crazy Methodist who never let her do anything...

That would be the downside to being homeschooled.

Just a random thought. I wish I was home schooled for just a year. Thanks for answering my question. Open to any other points of view.

Ok I have a question. Hope it doesn't sound dumb.
Do you guys/girls feel like you learned better while being home schooled?

Just a random thought. No one has to answer it if they don't want to.

I'm a former homeschooler. I LOVED IT. I think that my best years, socially, educationally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, were my years of homeschool. Am I allowed here, even though I'm sent off to highschool now?

I agree that homeschooling doesn't work for everyone though. But it worked for me. It works well. Anything else anyone wants to know that I find different 'tween the two types of education?

Well MEAP tests are in October for our school again. They aren't that bad. I usually place in the exceeding standards for the state. Big Grin

I am going to go pick up Much Ado About Nothing. When I have my appreciation lunch for the volunteers at the Library Wednesday.

In that case I have no doubt that you will get in. Unless of course you have test anxiety and don't do very good on ITBS testing. I had that problem and stopped taking it, but I do have to take the ITED this year...loads of fun...

I just got my schedule. I don't like the way classes are lined up though. I will find out who my teachers and choice classes are when I go to put stuff and learn the combo to my locker. I hope I will get the honors class, Its called the roots of conflicts, its for people with advance interests and abilities in history. Which really means I know where, when, and why wars took place. Should be a very easy class.

So, so far I have gotten my math, history, and logic textbooks. And I have started on all three of them. The history is much better than last year's. And I will take sixth period Language Arts at the high school, which is a really bad time but it was that or seventh. Oh, well.

Of course your right it is a classic. I will just have to go and get it myself when I am better.
