Hey, this is Jaybee. It's been a mighty long time since I hopped on these boards. I go to Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Wa. This school was my first and only choice, because I'm deeply involved in the performing arts. I wouldn't transfer because my school is private and most of our classes are geared towards the arts. (My first semester schedule is Gender on Stage, Music Theory, Private Instruction, and Musical Theatre Workshop). No Math or Sciences. The best thing about my college is the freedom to explore all the different aspects in performing arts. I am a Musical Theatre major, but I can dabble in painting or dance anytime I want. I'm doing pretty well if I may say so myself, the only thing is, my school has no dorms, so it's up to you to go out and find your own residence. My room mate and I split a rent of $800 for an apartment in Seattle, and that's expensive with our bills and living needs (*cough* Clothes). My goals are to graduate with the 4.0 GPA I've managed to maintain even though I suck at written music. My advice to young YNers is never give up. I used to think I wasn't qualified to go to my school, but with plenty of hardwork and determination, I aced the auditions and got one of the top scores, earning me a scholarship. I NOW HAVE AN ACCOUNTING PROFESSOR! AND, ACCORDING TO HER RATINGS, SHE'S THE BEST!!! Now I can relax about that class and order my textbook. *starts doing a little dance all over the house*

Yes, I knew I'd confuse some people with that line. But I'm not really undecided, just undeclared. AT the end of the last semester, I thought I'd do Comm. and just go into Elementary Ed. if I decided against Law. Now I know that I'd want to be a High School teacher, so my major would have to be directly related to the coursework I'd teach (right now, I've narrowed it down to English or History). So, in sum, I have "changed" my undeclared major.

I'm going to ask around to see what my chem book is going to be. My physics book was $110 last year, I hope this one is cheaper. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

Yay! I can get my intro to law book for only $40 I should have known it would have been relatively cheap...the class is with my favorite professor, as of next semester, I wil have had 5 classes with her, and she hasn't assigned an expensive text so far. Hooray!

Yes. Lame registrar. And I can't change my classes over the summer. LAME. I've decided to change my undeclared-major to another undeclared-major, but I need to start 100-level courses next semester if I'll ever complete ANY major.. LOL...

Yeah...at my school at least, you know who your profs are before the semester begins. Then all you have to do is e-mail them and ask them... It doesn't work though when the stupid registrar doesn't bother to update the schedules online...sigh.

Only trouble is, if you don't know what your profs will want, it might end up coming too late (shipping may take a few days, sometimes about a week...) and you'll have to play major catchup...

So...anyone still buy books from the campus bookstore? I did that first semester for all of my books, second semester I ordered two of them online... For next year, I already have two of my books (ordered online), one is in the process of being shipped to me, one will be ordered the second my prof e-mails me back with the ISBN and the last, well it's pending the naming of my accounting professor... I REALLY, STRONGLY, cannot recommend enough buying textbooks online. It saves SO much money, and then you can sell them back online, sometimes for more than you paid for them. (earning you a profit to use towards the next semester's books...) I personally go through Amazon and haven't had any problems thus far (knock on wood...). If you have any questions about Amazon, let me know... (and if anyone wants to buy my stupid computer book, that I never actually used in class, or my Constitutional Interpretations book...let me know too...)

I should've taken summer courses...I am ot doing anything this summer. I'm working part-time, but it seems like I am always at home doing nothing. If my scholarship would have covered them, or if they would have made a significant change in my graduation date, I would have taken them in a heartbeat. However, I can't afford the tuition at my school without my scholarship (only covers fall and winter semesters) and community college credits take a lot of arm twisting to apply towards my major. I'm taking 15 credits right now, and if I continue at this rate, I will graduate in 4 years, with a couple extra credits. If I had a couple more credits (which I could get through summer courses or by taking a couple 18 hour semesters), I would be able to graduate a semester early. As attractive as that is, especially financially, it would be silly because law schools only accept new students in the fall (except for a select few that start a small group during summer semester) and I wouldn't want to go that long of a period without classes. Go figure...

I haven't seen anything that impressed me. Holy Cross doesn't have a good music program, Clark has the same band director I had in my early high school days, WPI has no music major, worcester state isn't challenging enough for me, I won't go to a community college (Quinsig) and I don't think that really leaves anything else. Detroit isn't a big city at all...the area where UDM's campus is is a pleasant little downtownish area. Lots of fast food...no one really strays far from campus unless they are going to Canada to drink, or Ferndale for the night life... I'm a big fan of my school in case you haven't noticed...y'all should consider it...

Holy Cross is in the middle of Worcester, just to let you know. Not like Worcester is a huge city or anything though. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore
