I'm at the University of Detroit Mercy (formerlly just U of D and Mercy College of Detroit, they combined 16 years ago). I was all set to go to U of M, but then my friend dragged me to a visit day here and I fell in love with its charm. It is in Detroit (obviously), but it's like it own community. It's a very small school with a great reputation. I love it here and I would not consider transferring. My favorite thing about it is that liberal arts classes are capped at 40, with many under 20. The price tag is pretty hefty, $23,000, but everyone who is accepted receive some sort of scholarship (I had a 3.82 and a 31 on my ACT's and I got $15,000, if that gives you any indication...). I HIGHLY recommend checking it out. I'm majoring in Political Science and minoring in Legal Studies, Language Studies I and II (Spanish) and Business Administration. Once I'm done here I am going to law school...actual school TBD after my LSAT's. My advice is to look at every aspect of a school before settling on one. I didn't choose my school until December of Senior year. I put undecided as my major on my ACT. Don't limit yourself by only thinking about one aspect of a college, look at the whole picture. Apply to a bunch of places, check out how much $$$ you are worth to them. Apply private even if you think you can't afford it- they typically give more scholarships than public schools. Fill out your FAFSA (I think it's fafsa.edu?) and hopefully you can get need-based free $, great loans or work study. Have any ??? for me? E-mail me at missymeg05@aol.com!

No, it's not that. I wanted to skip my senior year. I did the calls to universities and everything, had everything extremely well-planned. Then my bipolar mother came and took a shit over my plans (serious diahrrea shit) and so now I have to suffer through 12th grade, which is a useless grade here and basically a waste of time.

I've seen that too. you have to do something noteworthy that would impress colleges, or you wont get into very good ones. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

My college plans are pretty much in limbo. Long story. I'm still going to college, but not a year in advance like I was hoping to.

quote: yogore, are you still looking for a school with an engineering (was that it?) program?
Yes and no. I want a rigorous academic program, but am willing to settle if it doesnt have an engineering program if it has a good music program. I would really like to be able to fall back on chem if music doesnt work... quote: i can talk more about the school or help you with other schools if you need help

Northwestern is definitely a good choice. I wonder, though, yogore, are you still looking for a school with an engineering (was that it?) program?

Northwestern is an excellent school, I have 3 friends who are going there. It's also fairly expensive tho... they have a very competitive debate team if you are interested in that.

quote: Could you expand on that? I'm looking into music schools and wondering what you think of Kentucky U's music department.
Do you mean University of Kentucky's music department? Western's music department is cool. All of the teachers are qualified highly in their field. Our band director Dr. John Carmichael, taught at Eastman School of Music for a while, our clarinet professor plays all the time in NY. I am a flute student and Dr. Pintner is an awesome teacher, but very critical. We play about 20 pieces a semester, but the experience has been worth it so far. If you are deciding on schools in the state of Kentucky: the best ones are Eastern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University and University of Louisville If you have any more questions don't hestitate to contact me.

yogore, where do you live and how far are you willing to go for college??? One of my friends is going to Eastman school of music in NY and she loves it. Of course, her parents are like going in to debt for a hundred years or so... She plays cello.
