Hey Y'all!

I'm an intern for a group called Youth Resistance Project, which runs Youth Against War and Racism in the Twin Cities of the lovely Minnesota. Our goals are to get military recruiters out of the schools, bring the troops home, more money spent for education and jobs, and say NO to racism and attacks on our civil liberties!

I have several questions for you on the subject. How often do they come into your school on an average of a month? What are the ways they try to get you to sign up? Have you ever seen students challenge the recruiters or an alternative to the military? Do you often feel pressure to sign up and say yes to this unfair and unjust war? Are you forced to share school books and other learning tools because of the cut backs to support the war? Would you ever consider taking action if you felt you could? If you have taken action like protests, sit ins or even die ins or ect., what have you done and what was the result of the action?

You may add any more information to these questions or other stuff.

More information on YAWR go to Youth Against War and Racism

Peace!

anyone who says they fight for my freedom can suck my non-existant balls. if you want to use the whole "I fight for freedom so respect me and give me money!" bs than you can screw off. I'll protect myself when I feel I'm threatened. ^.^

Can someone explain to me how soldiers in Iraq protect me? especially since Iraq was never a "threat." I wish people thought about these things in terms of benefitting our country. I find it silly that many people in the army are usually the dregs of society. That's because all the people who were really educated realized war is almost always unnecessary so they chose to carry on with their lives and focus their attention on more important things than some pathetic little country that was better off without us destroying their way of life. Yes I know Saddam was oppressive but why should we care? There are plenty of other countries that have oppressive dictators and are currently facing genocide but do we interfer? NO because all we cared about with Iraq was the oil. I think it is something more than that. First Bush senior than Bush junior all in Iraq, all of their friends making money off the war... something doesn't add up. I didn't realize republicans enjoyed wasting money on things that will bring them no revenue. Isn't that what America was originally about? Having the most powerful economy in the world. Well, thank you right-wingers we have royally fucked ourselves and the whole world is laughing at us or else sneering at us. We lost it all for one stupid, worthless country that will just continue in turmoil for years to come. Good Job America. I salute you.

Hey bro what's wrong with having the recruiters come to school? It's not any different then having college recruiters or any other shit come in. If your interested stop by and say hi, If your not interested keep on walking no one's drafting your hippie ass. Your all about freedom right? well give people the freedom to make their own choices and fuck off.

As for cut backs to support the war, I know congress didn't pass anything like that so shut your mouth and get some facts. I'm going through a military tech school at the moment and we have to provide most of our own supplies and share materials because our budgets have been cut. If schools are fucked for materials that's a budget issue to bother your state about not anything to do with the war.

Yeah it was against the war and A LOT of people wanted to do it but as I've said already, my hs adminstration was F***ed.

It would have been awesome to at least show people that teens can respectfully protest but they just thought we wouldn't be responsible. A few of us did it and we didn't get in any trouble (a lot of things in our school went unoticed) however the threat of suspension prevented it from being as good as it could have been. U.U

Wow!
I know many can and would do that. The more the people would have done it would made a more powerful statement. Was the goal if done to send a message on the war?

At my school I think recruiters were there maybe once a month, or every other month. They would just say on the annoucements "Recruiters blah blah blah."

Our school is a little messed up. During the second year of the war a bunch of seniors were going to walk out during lunch and have a silent protest. The adminstration said that if anyone did this they would be suspended so that killed it. They thought that some people would just skip school.
