I think that there are WAY too many boy bands right now and i'm sure more are in the making. I hate that they control what young girls think. Its so annoying and controlling to me. I'm a 16-year-old guy and i think their music sounds crappy to begin with, but then that fact that thats all young girls listen to and focus thier lives on its stupid. Tell me what you think.

"Boyband" by my definition is:

A band with 4-6 young males that sing songs about partying all night or making out with their girlfriends and dance and don't play their own instruments.

Their songs don't have any meaningful lyrics and all wear matching outfits.

I can't stand boybands. True, true, when I was 7 or 8, I liked that crap, but now, it's just sounds like a pig getting run over by a lawnmower.

No Doubt is my favorite band *although I have to admit Rock Steady wasn't a work of art like Tragic Kingdom or Return of Saturn, but I still liked it* They are simply a female-fronted group that mixes ska, punk, rock, and pop that makes fans happy.

If you don't like No Doubt, I understand, just don't go around dissing me or other fans.

I agree about there's bunchs of boy bands but they've gone out of style some time back. Now maybe it's cause I and everone I know has grown out of them but, still most middle and high school girls don't listen 2 those pop groups like N'syc any more. And if they like rock they're listenin' to Arvil Livinge( Not blink182 or whatevers a new guy rock band.)

And is it me or are these "moshers" getting just as bad a boy band fans.Nu metal and heavy rock fans accuse boy bands as not making music but making just"noise",thats true but they all pretend that a lot of nu metal is real music,and the lyrics all apply to real life,yeah right.Many of them are just as manufactured as boy bands,and many of them came out of nowhere when nu metal started to gain massive popularity.But with geekrock you get none of that bull,you just get great music.=W=.I thnik the thing is to just listen to what sounds good and not follow any lame trends.

budwurm, I must say that I think your post is a bit extreme. I've personally never met a girl who loved a boy band as much as you described (and I went to a large school with about 1400 kids in it)I've actually only met one girl who has even liked a boy band. Now, this may be regional or something (maybe ther are more boy band fans in the midwest for example, I don't know) but where I'm from most of the girls who listen to "pop" music listen to the trashy girls (or girl groups, not the boy bands.
And I would also like to say that your post also generalized girls WAY too much. Yes, I know lots of girls (and GUYS too [though not so many]) listen to boy bands, but there is definitely an equal amount of us who DONT and listen to rock, punk, rap, hip hop, jazz, classical, etc.
As for young girls, lots of them listen to the boy bands but tend to grow out of them by fourth or fifth grade. I actually spend all of elementary school listening to my No Doubt tape, go figure.
And Lefteye5678, is your friend all there? She probably needs some help with her boy band obsession.

i think boy bands r ruining young girls lives. i am one of those girls, only i didnt fall in love with them. one reason that girls fall for boy bands is because they r so cute. sometimes, they really arent, and that is what the girl thinks! i think that it is like being brainwashed by some alien! girls out there, if u think u truly love boy bands, then ask urself this, r they more important than urself? if they r, u dont love em. u just think u do. my friend almost killed herself for one of em. she was goin to carve a tatoo on herself w/ a knife. to me, that sounds like depression. that is what she told me. girls, dont let lipsinking, kiddy dancing, boy bands ruin ur lives!

Everyone picks on boy bands and I don't know why. Yes to some degree they are a product of the MTV generation but you could group and groups together that sound the same like saying blind 182, phish, and red hot chili peppers are a product of that just because they are alternative...every genre of music has bands that sound the same. I mean sometimes it can be overly cheesy but hey, Blink 182 ran around naked in a video. I hate the fact that some groups resort to making fun of others because they have no other idea musically to comunicate other than to mimic others.

i wish mtv would play music like jewel, sarah mclachlan, and other artists that really know how to sing. plus, mtv isn't really mtv, its just mainstream. i wish they played religious as well cause that is music as well.

They are most definitely out of control. I know. I was there. I remember hearing new songs by these boy bands and not liking them at first. But when my friends started to talk about them and started singing them, I figured, "hey, they like them, so if I do, I guess I'll be cool..." boy was I wrong. It's not about the music, it's about infecting preteens with the obligation to buy, buy, buy! 90% of people who listen to boy bands listen to them because their friends do. There is no originality..these poor children feel that they NEED to be cool, so they listen to this fabricated "music"...and to be a little rebellious, they listen to Blink-182 and Boxcar Racer and Sum 41...basically boy bands (notice they all have that little spiky hair do) with instruments playing little 3-note songs...It's madness...So, the bottom line is, listen to what you want, for YOUR OWN REASONS, not because your friends are listening to it. ~alex

I think they're annoying too, but just for you guys' information boybands have been around longer than BSB and N'sync. Think about the beach boys, the beetles, Jackson 5, they were all boy bands. They've always been around. Soon boy bands will get out of style (thank God), but they'll be back.

I think the newer boybands are pushing it. The original few that were around 5 years ago are great. For example: BSB. They sort of started the whole boyband trend. And when they became big other boybands started to come out on the scene. Like there are some really young boybands out there that are just "manufactured" like O-town. They didn't have it rough like others they got it all handed to them. Anyway, your opinion matters in your own mind. Just like mine. You can't just put an end to the boybands. There will be all sorts of new ones coming out. I suggest that you just ignore it and listen to the type of music that doesn't have that type of music.

Boy bands are yet another product brought to the MTV generation and as usual they embrace it, ignoring the spirit or real music. Like the song goes, MTV, get off the air. I'd say the same for boybands and any other unoriginal type music. Heh, and boybands arent anything new, the monkees were close to todays modern cr4p anyway.

If god does indeed exist, I'm sure it would be more to his liking for people to enjoy life than to have them dedicate life to boring, careful, shaker-esque lifestyles with an occasionally infusion of boybands, etc.

Boy bands are your favorite music ? They're just noise, not music. How are they better than 'little people' as you put it ? And moreso, their singing skills are terrible, but various studio recording machines can touch up sound like airbrushes touch up photos. And also, they arent singing any significant messages, just filler material with no value whatsoever.

Most of the people watching this boy band cr4p dont really have the intellect, etc to be ready for music with real messages related to real problems or issues, the type of music I like to listen to, punk, etc, but thats still no excuse for boybands, the ultimate demise of music as we know it.
