I think his "F*ck you" attitude is half his problem. The truth is, he may or may not mean half the things he says in his songs. However, his anger at the world causes him to lash out anyway he can: the way we recognize him do this is through his music. Cathartic though it may be, I sometimes get this feeling like he wants to encourage homophobia, misogny, etc, as part of this "F*ck you" attitude.

Am I talking about some evil conspiracy? Maybe. Maybe his knowledge that people will take his music and use his "F*ck you" attitude themselves (except with far less restraint)is part of the kick he gets. Maybe. That's what bothers me about Eminem.

Artists don't have to take responsibility for the effects of their work, nor do I believe they should. However, it ****es me off when ill effects are their intent.

I don't know if I was understood correctly the first time. Eminem has the exact same content as the other great rappers. So why does everybody have there panties in a knot?

The only talent he has is to insult, demean, scream obsenities, and maybe ryhme. So what? He is a very black spot on our society. He represents all of the problems with our society. He has nothing good to say, and it's obvious that he lacks the intellegence to say anything other than obsenities. He doesn't even sing about anything relevent, important, or civilized. He could be a very good singer/rapper if he took the time to write his lyrics a little better.

Also, Eminem is not the only one. I'd say almost every modern hip hop/rap artist today is bad for society. Almost no one can write a good song without a swear word in it. I find this incredibly sad. I believe that little children's speech is influenced by listening to TV, music, and movies. Not their actions, but their speech. I believe that if we are to correct the wrongs of our society, it must first take place in the music industry cleaning up their act.

but, I havn't seen like anything about him recently. where did he go? or is the novelty of a "white homophobic rapper" kind of worn off in the media? as far as the musician himself, I agree with a lot of you, I don't personaly like his music, but i do think he's talented in some ways.
cheers,
KC

First of all, who the hell is ICP? Second, his wife was actually abusive towards him. Third, how much different an influence on Detroit than on other cities? (he's a bad influence on Detroit)
His content is exactly the same as that of other great hip hop artists such as the Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg, and the late Big Punisher. And you don't think they're bad influences on Long Beach, Staten Island, and the Bronx, do you?

I personally don't like Eminem. He is sexist, homophobic, talks bad about his mother, was bad to his X-wife, curses like a sailor, ect. ect. ect.

I used to listen to Eminem. I loved him, his posters were all over my wall, but that was true with ICP as well. Then Eminem started talking about his mother, and I'm all like, woooh, slow down marshal. but he didn't slow down, and I think he is a bad influence to Detroit and its culture.

Then, he starts dissing Christina Agulara, which, i am ok with that, but hes kind sexually harrasing her in his songs, and making an *** of himself. I don't tolorate it when guys talk bad of girlies just to talk bad about girlies, i consider it harrasment, and i think she should sue. or something like that.

Then i hear this song with ICP in it. Whats up with that? My faverate rappers are being dissed by my other faverate rapper? well, i could not seddle for this. good-bye Eminem posters. I'm sure any juggolo would agree.

Sometimes I've found him funny , other times ridiculous , adn most of the time offensive. But I'm not going to say , "Bad boy! Stop rapping!"
He's not one to be a role model , and I don't think his music should be taken that seriously , but I do think he has talent.

I can't stand his music or his attitude for that matter. I think he is very immature and needs to learn how to control his anger. I don't care if people listen to him, but he needs to be mature and try to keep younger kids from listening to his music and stop marketing it at them. Even he said that he doesn't let his daughter listen to his music.

I don't care for him myself. I don't like the misogonistic and homophobic lyrics of his songs. I also understand that he, and anyone else has the right to say/sing what they want. I think (just my opinion here) that he and other artists (Marilyn Manson, ICP, etc) realize the shock value their music can have and how much money that can make them, and that's why they play that music. His music disgusts me, I don't listen to it, but I don't care if other people do.

I like Eminem b/c he raps w/ raw emotion none of that I'm a slave for you garbage. So he's a homophobic-I don't think he's a bad person for it but I don't like the way he bashes them. I like his I don't give a F*** attitude, b/c I don't think anyone should care about what everyone else thinks about them. Anyhow, I would never allow my kids to listen to him but I myself like him. smile

a very talented musician... but his lyrics, though an expression of emotion, like birdygirl said, do have somewhat of a negative effect on kids and possibly older people.

Please, no one try to make an argument out of this. that's just my opinion.

He is homophobic.
He has a devil-may-care attitude.
He sings about killing people.

But musically, he's a good musician.

He makes some jewels amidst all his songs of murder. Listen to "Stan" and you'll see what I mean. That song makes me cry because of all the raw emotion contained within it. Music is emotion, and Eminem's certainly got it. He could try to be open-minded and care about the way people see him, but we've got to accept that until he decides to change, this is him through and through. cool
