Am I the only one that is totally sick of the media, Mtv, and the music industry giving not only teens but all the people the wrong idea of beauty? It is totally sickening to me. I call their idea of "beauty" the "Barbie Look"-- blonde hair, super skinny, white, with big boobs to put it simply. I think this is totally disgusting and I really love that Dove commerical where all the girls take off their blonde wigs. I thought it was a pretty powerful commercial. I feel like we have to do something to help people understand that beauty isnt just looking like a "Barbie", its about your soul and also people of different races and colors and shapes and sizes. If anyone is with me...post here!

ok
So I am definitly not trying to sound stuck-up when I say this.
But I was born with the "barbie look".
I have blonde hair, blue eyes, boobs & I'm skinny. So just because I was genetically made this way that makes me a slut or someone who feels the need to fit in?
I always get kind of mad because what about the girls who don't have to try.
Sure I wear make-up everyday. Sure I love clothes. Sure I played with barbies when I was little. So does that make me bad?
I understand about the whole barbie-bad influence thing but hey barbie had good qualities didnt she?
There was never a smoking barbie or a druggie barbie. Never an alcoholic barbie.
Barbie always portrayed an occupation or a cute outfit or a movie star.
She was never a bad thing in my eyes.

I would just like to point out that Barbie was
originally a hooker...and..I really appreciate Dove talking out against the media's idea of "beauty" and girls being in more pressure than ever to be "beautiful".
And just last night I was watching Secret lives of women where women have Eating Disorders..
Anorexia and bulimia. It's a psychological disorder where the person just sees her self being "too" fat..but it's also where the person is more accepted and liked when she's "skinny"
and he/she just craves that attention.

I tend to not like the "clones", it's become kind of present in my area lately with the young'ins. We've been calling them (stolen from the film
"Mean Girls"). Prostitots. It suits them.

im sorry but people are born how they are so maybe dont want to look like a barbie doll but its there heritage or they get it from their parents. but if you ask me changing your look around not to look like a barbie doll is just as worse as changing your self to look like a barbie doll

One of my guy friends has two categories of pretty: 'barbie pretty' and 'smart pretty'. Barbie pretty doesn't just apply to blondes, it's the girls that only care about wearing the best clothes and freak out if their make up or hair is slightly messed up. Smart pretty just means girls that are pretty, but they don't spend all their time concentrating on that. They have interests other than just clothes and make up. They do well in school and participate in extra curricular activities that stimulate the mind. I'm not saying that everyone fits into one or the other of these categories, just that it's an interesting way to look at it. And, my guy friend actually prefers 'smart prettty' girls anyway.

Why don't more people care?

My high school has taken the "Barbie" world by storm. Every girl has long, straight blonde hair with black or brown dye in it. It is the worst thing ever. I recently (well, December) had my hair cut short to stand out a little bit. I sure don't want to be just another carbon copy Barbie.

i think its time people listen to a "barbies" point of view on this subject. ive been called a barbie ever since i entered high school .. and what do u kno ? im a brunette and im kinda short; sure i spend too much of my time in the tanning salon, wear to much makeup , not to mention over priced BROWN extensions , but blondes arnt the only ones called "ditz's, or dumb . i get called that all the time .. soo really i think its just the way people present themselves that determines weather or not people are going to call you dumb or w.e but just because we spend way to much time on our looks doesnt mean were stupid. im actually very smart. think about it .

Surprisingly pheromones aren't everything. There are plenty of people that I find plenty attractive based solely on how they look, but once I get to know them I find them utterly unattractive because of their personality. Idiots aren't attractive in my opinions neither are religious extremists. SO no Pheromones aren't everything. As Aguagon said.

And thank you Aguagon for your earlier post on why penis size is so stressful, I hadn't looked at this thread till now.

Pheremones don't even begin to get all the credit. Sexual attraction in humans is a really complicated thing.

Breastesses, penis size, blondes vs. brunettes...all irrelevant! The bottom line is people are attracted to one another because of PHEREMONES. Chemicals. It's been scientifically proven. That's why they call it "chemistry" when people meet and come together, WHAM! Like two taxis on Broadway. Point #2: People are starving, children are dying of preventable disease, animals are being tortured for no good reason, and we are busy looking in the mirror! As soon as we as individuals begin to do something for others, we will feel good about ourselves. It is true that real beauty comes from within.....

A.) The size of a man's penis might not be readily visible, but it's pretty much the sole virtue his private parts are judged on. It's a lot easier for a woman to physically "compensate" for small breasts than it is for a man to compensate for a small penis. That's a lot of pressure to put on one area.
B.) There's a large community of men who prefer small-breasted girls. If there's an equivalent female community, I haven't heard of it.
C.) The only reason men don't spend exorbitant amounts of time and money on unnatural, uncomfortable, painful means/procedures of making their penises look larger is because such means aren't readily available. Just look at the amount of guys willing to try all the BS enlargement pills.
D.) On all of this, and I can't stress this enough: I'm just saying.

But on the body image front, I kinda 70% agree with CuervoQuixotic. There is a lot of pressure on guys, too. But since men are more prone to developing attraction through visual stimuli, it's not hard to see why girls tend to make themselves more sick over this than guys do.

Babytupac: please refrain from writing in all caps locked letters...in internet speak, that shows that you are SHOUTING and it is more difficult for people to read what you have to say.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before on this thread, but I think that along with the the "Barbie Look" you should also speak of the "ken Look" Something about always hearing about how girls have it so tough with having to look good that drives me up a fricken wall. I mean its not always easy to be a guy either..... When is the last time you saw someone with a lead that hasn't been attractive.

All the time I hear girls and guys talking of how hot this celebrity is or so and so is so attractive. It seems that if a guy isn't tall, with a 6 packs and pecs and can play sports or sing in a band, then they aren't good ebough. So I mean guys have it tough too. I know plenty that have been hospitalised trying to get thinner and show more muscle. I mean I'm pretty thin (a size 27) but only cause I spent the first two years of High School not eating and I got pretty sick.

and guys may not have too worry about breast size but penis size can be just as nerve racking .

So to sum up rambling: Girls do have it hard too. Guys have the same problem with body image.

Just thought someone should point that out

where i go to school 80% look like "barbies"

It may be because I live in the middle of texas but its just how they are

nealry all of them are tall thin white with colored eyes.

some are airheads, some are activists, and others huge christians, but they all have that stereotype look.

so there is nothing wrong with that image to me, i mean its genetics that determines a 5' 8'' blonde, blue eyed bombshell not them

I think being yourself is the best thing you can do ever. The whole Barbie look, shouldn't have turned out the way it is. Now everyone wants to portray that Barbie look figure, which is getting a lot of teens sick and have self problems
