as a girl, you see the media being targeted at you. this is because u understand certain gestures, and actions from past experiences of being a girl. So you notice when someone is hinting at you to better yourself.
as for the guys, you werent raised a dude, so you dont notice when the media attacks them.

the media is like a funhouse mirror. it makes you look at yourself in the ugliest way.

No body makes anyone look ugly. You are ugly inside and/or outside. No one can make me feel ugly.

Are you kidding? It IS the guys that are targeted. That women are targeted is a side effect. Men are constantly told that there is something sexually perfect just outside of their reach by the media. Do you have any idea what kind of effect this has on their lives? Probably the same kind of effect that ED's (and I am a survivor) has on women's lives.

guys do get targeted by the media its just more subtle if ure a guy u have to be tall and muscular with a huge six pack i mean how many guys are like that? Most i know are skinny and short. Its actually harder for them b/c they teach u in school (usually) that girls are the only ones with body perception issues and that is just not true.

I believe, pretty much, if you breathe you will be targeted by the media. Women are targeted maybe in more forms than men but it doesn't mean everyone isn't targeted. Even children are targeted by the media.

The media is shameless with who it targets, and everyone will always be affected.

The media is focused on men more than you think. Look at beer commercail. Hot chicks with beer gets their attention. Video games hot chicks with big guns gets their attention. An example is that this one girl use to have her character topless so she would surprise the male players so she could kill them. This happened in one of unreal games. Almost the entire video game industry was focused on males.

and remember, menchi is a good emergency food supply. full of protein.

Frankly, guys are boring! women have a lot of things going on in their life than men do!

Oh no she di'nt!

Sorry, I had to. Anyways, your claim that guys are boring is extremely subjective. I could easily say that women are boring (I mean, who really thinks shopping is fun?), but it's just a silly thing to say. Sure, it may be your opinion, but even opinions can be way out in left field.

There are plenty of celebrity guys who do crazy things. Hello, Tom Cruise? They get less tabloid time than celebrity women because, let's face it, no self-respecting celebrity guy would ever be seen without underwear. The number of celebrity women sighted without bras or panties is larger than the number of used condoms that have been in Paris Hilton's home. Exposure and indecent behavior will earn you bad publicity. Not too many guys do that. And you certainly hear about the ones you do. Sean Penn is known for beating up paparazzi. Colin Farrell is the male version of Paris Hilton. And let's not even go into the exploits of Pete Doherty.

Guys aren't boring. They're just less exhibitionist.

Hollywood and the media is only there because we put it there. We put people like Paris Hilton up on a pedestal because the media says so, but we give the media the power...

I was just really repetitive...

Answer: most famous guys know better than to wear unflattering clothing in public, intentionally forget to wear underpants, or get drunk at a party and attack paparazzi. Only Sean Penn is entitled to the last part.

I'm not saying there aren't bad celebrity men, but there are many more bad celebrity women.

i know what you mean.. shows like the oc or laguna beach drive me crazy. i know some girls are naturally twigs, and good for them. but i'm not. i'm an average weight. i have curves. and most of the time i feel good about that. but heaven knows that when i turn on the tv and see skinny actresses in bikinis, i feel bad.

guys don't get off the hook completely. why are all the larger guys cast as the "funny, slighly stupid, but lovable" characters? i want to see a protagonist who's smart, charming, and without the washboard abs!

It's a chicken-and-egg type thing. Women, in general, care more about beauty and beauty products because the media targets women because women, in general, care more about beauty and beauty products.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that the media is trying to make you feel ugly; the media just wants you to know you could be "more beautiful." Yes, the endless stream of beauty products is horribly overblown (I'm pretty sure 98% of them don't do anything, but then again, I'm also a guy and pretty sure conditioner doesn't do anything), but like you said, there's nothing wrong with wanting to feel and look your best. If you interpret a pretty face on your TV screen as an assault on your appearance, you probably do have some complex self-esteem issues, and you need to work on developing coping skills.

Unfortunately, choosing to ignore the media is impossible. You can limit yourself to what you think won't upset you, but there will always be exposure to a standard of beauty it is difficult if not impossible for the average person to meet.

Amen. While the media is constantly telling us to be impossibly beautiful, parts of it also seem to be reminding us that real women have curves, only bimbos wear makeup, and if you're thin you must not only be anorexic, but a horrible person as well. You just can't win.

And then, as the books were told, Fina replied: "A can of worms, my dear friend? What has this to do with reason?"

The media is not deliberately trying to make anyone feel ugly. YOU CHOOSE to watch whatever it is you're watching and you choose to let it affect you. You can ignore it, you know.

I agree with palaver. Never pay attention to the media when there talking about celebritys. Its like watching a show on god. It makes you want to be like them. And the problem is, that these people in the media are in the media because, negatively put; there everything you wish you were, but probably shouldn't be.

The reason why you probably shouldnt be what they are; rich, famous, and popular ect.
is because, the typical person, couldnt and wouldnt remain or stay healthy if they lived in an enviroment or if they lived life like a star would.

Ok? get it now? Kapeesh. lol.

It ends when you become wise enough not to pay attention to the media. By the time that happens, age will do to your body what genetics had no heart to do.

It happens early for males too. Just examine the status system that takes shape in school. You might see patterns regarding physical characteristics.
