The media is always trying to get in our way by making us feel ugly! I mean cellulite, bikinis, and i am not saying it is not great to look great but so many girls and young woman are being sucked into this, where does it end, and will it begin for guys??

Maybe we don't notice media targeting guys as much as girls because we girls have more ways of becoming targets. For example, media tells guys to be tall, buff, and have a great "personality", but girls are told to have big boobs, big perfect asses, small waists, never complain about anything, have lots of kids but maintain the perfect body, be the perfect lover but take care of a house a stupid husband, kids and do everything by themselves. Oh, and lets not forget women are not allow to look old, but men can. In conclusion both, media and society, SUCK BIG TIME!!!!!!!

no one can make you feel inferior without your consent... so maybe it seems that guys aren't targeted because they don't really let those media stuff affect them.. (they make lots or jokes about the movie 300).. they don't really care but girls care too much of things and little details..

its horrible, ya but the truth is guys dont care. face it, if girls think they're ugly, the big factorys or whatever will get rich. girls will buy anything that will help their sometimes-imaginary ugliness

i agree that both men and women are targeted. men see all these images of abs just as many times as we see skinny bodies. some say you shouldn't let media affect you but it will because you see it every single day and we all would like to have our ideal bodies but why? the obvious answer, for the opposite sex right. well think about this when you have found your partner and are married for even a few years, you will look different and probably not as appealing in most cases, the person you marry will more than likley love you for who you are not what you look like. so we should focus on keeping our bodies healthy without feeling so negative about ourselves. what matters most is what's on the inside. usually relationships that start out based on physical attraction don't last very long.

It's not like its just us who are the targets, I believe everyone is being fooled into thinking they should look better, female or not. How do you think it makes guys feel to see huge, muscular, tan men all through the magazines? Or when their wives or girlfriends swoon over the ubercute lead in a soap opera? This "perfection" phenomenom that America is going through right now will not pass easily. For it to blow over, everyone has to show the media that they don't care, which I don't think will happen any time soon.

The media targets males at a very young age, look at all the "heroes" they're huge, buff, and elaborately conceived images. Also television is flooded with "Male Enhancement" adds. To be honest, the media targets both genders equally portraying bad images.

Girls are targeted by the media to show how we "should" look causing many problems for young girls. But men do suffer from the same issues from the media. Everywhere you look on magazines, tv shows, etc we see "the top sexiest men of 200*" showing men what is sexy and if they dont look that way they feel as though they are not "sexy." And the next time you are in a store look at the magazines with men on the front of them. You will see hard rock abs, defined arm muscles etc. which in reality is not what the average man looks like causing them to have much of the same issues that girls have but boys are a lot less likely to express their negative feelings of their physical features. So it's there its just hard for us girls to realize it.

as a girl, you see the media being targeted at you. this is because u understand certain gestures, and actions from past experiences of being a girl. So you notice when someone is hinting at you to better yourself. as for the guys, you werent raised a dude, so you dont notice when the media attacks them.
the media is like a funhouse mirror. it makes you look at yourself in the ugliest way.

No body makes anyone look ugly. You are ugly inside and/or outside. No one can make me feel ugly.

Are you kidding? It IS the guys that are targeted. That women are targeted is a side effect. Men are constantly told that there is something sexually perfect just outside of their reach by the media. Do you have any idea what kind of effect this has on their lives? Probably the same kind of effect that ED's (and I am a survivor) has on women's lives.

guys do get targeted by the media its just more subtle if ure a guy u have to be tall and muscular with a huge six pack i mean how many guys are like that? Most i know are skinny and short. Its actually harder for them b/c they teach u in school (usually) that girls are the only ones with body perception issues and that is just not true.

I believe, pretty much, if you breathe you will be targeted by the media. Women are targeted maybe in more forms than men but it doesn't mean everyone isn't targeted. Even children are targeted by the media. The media is shameless with who it targets, and everyone will always be affected.

The media is focused on men more than you think. Look at beer commercail. Hot chicks with beer gets their attention. Video games hot chicks with big guns gets their attention. An example is that this one girl use to have her character topless so she would surprise the male players so she could kill them. This happened in one of unreal games. Almost the entire video game industry was focused on males.
and remember, menchi is a good emergency food supply. full of protein.

Oh no she di'nt! Sorry, I had to. Anyways, your claim that guys are boring is extremely subjective. I could easily say that women are boring (I mean, who really thinks shopping is fun?), but it's just a silly thing to say. Sure, it may be your opinion, but even opinions can be way out in left field. There are plenty of celebrity guys who do crazy things. Hello, Tom Cruise? They get less tabloid time than celebrity women because, let's face it, no self-respecting celebrity guy would ever be seen without underwear. The number of celebrity women sighted without bras or panties is larger than the number of used condoms that have been in Paris Hilton's home. Exposure and indecent behavior will earn you bad publicity. Not too many guys do that. And you certainly hear about the ones you do. Sean Penn is known for beating up paparazzi. Colin Farrell is the male version of Paris Hilton. And let's not even go into the exploits of Pete Doherty. Guys aren't boring. They're just less exhibitionist.
The more you know, the less you don't know.

Hollywood and the media is only there because we put it there. We put people like Paris Hilton up on a pedestal because the media says so, but we give the media the power... I was just really repetitive...

Answer: most famous guys know better than to wear unflattering clothing in public, intentionally forget to wear underpants, or get drunk at a party and attack paparazzi. Only Sean Penn is entitled to the last part. I'm not saying there aren't bad celebrity men, but there are many more bad celebrity women.
