Amon Amarth and Blind Guardian, thank you Jenos. And Dragonforce. I highly suggest these. Not only are the songs well written musically, but the lyrics are all very intelligent and thought out.

The only good metal band is an understandable one. Growling and screaming into the microphone does not count as singing, sorry. Also, use of more than one umlaut immediately casts doubt upon a band's musical ability.

quote: Van Halen with David Lee Roth or with Sammy Hagar?
You know, I've never really been able to tell the difference (I know, I'm a horrible Van Halen fan). I think I like Diamond Dave better, though.

Would it be too cliché to say Metallica? If so, then I'll go with Bon Jovi and Van Halen. Yes, they count as metal. '80s metal is still metal.

Nile, Agalloch, Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, Soilworik, Kataklysm, Napalm Death, Lacuna Coil, Daath, Bolt Thrower, Arsis, Bloodbath, and Dark Tranquility are my favourites.
Cheated the way from fringe to elite. Clique of stylists, rounded illogic skipping a beat to a dead cert. By lheaving charges and bursting the abscess, with a forked toungue, bloated with courage and spewing self-importance. Drop your sights, aim lower, leave umblemished those with real power.
