Everybody Wants There Say About Models But Im Not Sure About Them. They Seem To Be Harmless, But Are They Just Teaching The Younger Generation That Anorexia And Looking Skinny Is The Solution To Feel And Look Good In Life. What Are They Really Doing To Us? Are They Harmless Or Are They Distroyiong The Future? I Know That I Personally Have Wanted To Be A Model Before But Have Also Suffered From Bad Anorexia - Which I've Not Yet Fully Recovered From. Is It The Media Or The Models Doing This ? Please Help Me Make Up My Desicion. Im Confused.

Well I think that models are good people. It's how we (the common people) look at them that makes them into bed people when they do nothing wrong. All they do is their job.

The debate over whether models are good or bad is irrelevant. The fact is that they exist, the body image they portray exists because it sells and it is on some level a manifestation of socities aspirations, aspirations towards perfection. If that body image did not sell, if that body image did not work for the designers then they wouldn't use it.

Diagreeable, irrational things happen in the world all the time and it's because people don't think, most of people will go through their lives like a pack of headless chickens flocking together, actually caring about the mindless crap we see in magazines and portrayed through the media.

Most people don't ever take a chance to reflect upon themselves, build confidence through getting out of their comfort zones and educate their minds so that they will be able to form their own opinions on what is going on around them in the world and why.

Everyone has a certain level of energy and time to devote to activities as they choose. It is ironic in that many models with travel the globe, strutting the catwalks yet fail to educate themselves in the worldy way that would enable them to see the horrible deal they are getting from a rational perspective; a strictly controlled diet, hours of exercise, mindless wearing of often ugly, eccentric clothes only to be shafted to the outskirts of society with their dieing youth once the next generations of underagers come through-this outcome is inevitable!! For anyone who believes that you can win in this game is destined to lose from day one, unfortunatley in the true nature of human beings, most peeople will become victims of such cycles and never seek to build the confidence to be able to look at what is happening, the images out there and know that they are wrong.

I am only 19 years old, I have lived a jetset lifestyle and I take an autodidactic approach to my education and I would say after a hard day of striving for a high distinction in a uni assignment I love to go and buy a crappy celebrity magazine or browse through a vogue just to tilt the IQ scale a little in the opposite direction for a few minutes Wink

I also love looking great, doing sport and making the most of my youthful appearance whilst not having to wear makeup! I like feeling pretty to. I had the oppurtunity to be a model, I am the naturally skinny type, but even the naturally skinny type still need a level of vanity beyond healthy standards that I was not willing to give based on this decision; that striving to get rid of tiny, meaningless imperfections only appearing to be important in the eyes of popular culture is simply absurd - birds of a feather flock together, the average person in society is an idiot - if you used your brain who would sacrifice the optimal lifestyle combining pleasure, health and fullfilment to adapt to an image designed by a pack of irrational fools?

I look at some of these models and I pity them for not having the wisdom they may gain later on in life (if they get there!), they are pawns destined to loose in society's game of expectations and few will probably ever discover that insight whilst they are too busy worrying about a stretch mark or two - but at what cost!!!

Anyway I say to any girls out their aspiring to be models, don't waste your youth, sure strive to look your best and gain a healthy body, you can look as good as a supermodel if you look after yourself and embrace your natural body shape, wear the right clothes and use the right products but educate yourself, live, live live!! There is a whole world out there and nothing is stopping you from doing anything except yourself, don't waste this time of your life and try to have empathy with yourself in ten or twenty years time...think about it.

They can't blame models, people need to know its not their size that makes them sexy, but the way they carry themseves.

It isn't them that's doing wrong...What matters is /your reaction/ to them. You should be able to realize that it's not important; the inside is what's important...

It is very foolish to blame models for an eating disorder and how it's "destroying society" when it's not even true. People need to stop blaming the media for all their problems... when the core of the problem is around YOURSELF. It's all about acceptance.

I always look at models, the lack of expression in their face with this out-of-this-world clothes they're trying to sell, looking at them like mannequins. And that's what models are supposed to do, sell the merchandise. Who ever started the whole "models/girls in the media are the ideal women of the future" thing is obviously ignorant. I don't look at these models, thinking being skinny is the solution for a good life, that's ridiculous. If a girl does think that way, then she can be easily manipulated, and she can't survive this world if she's going to be that infuenced by the media so easily.

Then again, I wouldn't know how an "average girl" would think. People have always commented on how thin I am and accused me on having an eating disorder when I don't. But here's an easy decision: model = NOT bad. You can't blame others for something that happened to you. I hope your recover from your anorexia.

But I don't understand how's it possible to live... love... secretly.

Okay. I fully believe that they are influnencing the younger generation to be something that they aren't/ So they are bad in my opinion. But I guess that everyone has a deiffernt view. As they may be harmless but to the a dozen girls that it totally changes the way that they look at themselves then I think it is a big deal.

“I think of models the way a painter thinks of the gallery wall. (I just want) something clean with no distractions.”- John Galliano, head designer of Dior couture.
Models are not supposed to be pretty. Models are not supposed to be an image of beauty. Models are not supposed to look like real women. Models are walking hangers. A couture dress serves the same purpose as a painting does: it’s art, not some consumerist’s delight. When a model walks down a runway, there is only thing to look at: the clothes. You’re not supposed to care at all what the model looks like, your just supposed to care about the dress. That’s why they have an exaggerated walk- it’s to show how the fabric moves. It’s why they’re skinny and lack all curves- because nothing is supposed to take away from the dress.
You said you in recovery from an eating disorder and I hope you’re able to recover. But just please remember, models are not the ideal woman. They are the ideal mannequin- that’s all.

Who needs actions when you got words?
