if myspace and livejournal isn't for punks, goths and emos with the occasional sane person (like most of the people on YN who have one for example) who are they for?

Heh, that was funny Amp. Stupid emo kids ruining the true MySpace image...well not really. Oh well.

I'm not sure whether to call you common or chaos (I suppose it really doesn't matter so long as you know I'm talking to you) but seriously, you can find sexual predators anywhere. Even under your bed. Go ahead, look. I dare you.

Regardless of where these nasty old men (or women) hang out, the only way they'll ever find you is if you let them by, say, posting your email address or even mailing address. And if you don't have any pictures of you doing things that might make you seem easy to get, then you're in even less danger. At any rate, MySpace is not unique in having sex predators. Any online community will have someone posing as someone they're not. Even YN has probably had a few of those over the course of it's existence. In essence, if you're worried that some dirty old man from Wisconsin is going to come rape you in your bed, you'd best lock yourself in the basement and stay far away from any Internet-capable computers.

Do I need to make my Internet-sex comparison again?

Anything can be made into something that it wasn't intended to be. Who knew that myspace would draw the likings of sexual pedophiles? I mean, it was to be expected when you have that many high school aged kids congregating in one place in cyberspace. But you have to admit, parents need to be in tune with their kids. I know that most parents either (1) don't care and let their kids do whatever they want or (2) simply don't have time to watch their kids every move. But then again there are the parents that are too overprotective. You get my drift.

I shut down my myspace recently. But it was merely because I was bored with it and nobody looked at it except Jamaica.

-----"""Myspace is like a park that has been taken over by a bunch of emo attention whores and huge sluts."""---

I disagree. Only about 25% of myspace users are huge sluts/emo attention whores. People complain about myspace, but it's useful and free, delivers tons that similarly competing sites don't. I don't care how many sluts there are on it, if I don't like them...I don't befriend them and problem solved.

I like to think the Internet is like sex: unprotected, it can be very hazardous to your health.

Remember that.

MySpace is no dangerous than walking in the park. Oh sure, you could get raped by some old guy from Tennessee who saw your almost-nude picture on your MySpace profile. You could just as easily get raped by some old guy who lives down the street while taking a walk in the park. The odds of you getting mugged in a major city are probably worse than the odds of a stalker finding you through a website, provided you don't give out private and personal information.

If you're going to ban your kids from MySpace, doubleclick, you'd better hire some bodyguards for when they go off to college.

I agree. If kids are brought up with an idea of the types of people in the world, and have developed a good commonsense, then they should have no problem with myspace.

My parents have always taught me to never trust anyone, so I don't. I have typically been allowed to do whatever I want, and when I take advantage of that (hanging out with friends late at night, going to school in a not-so-nice area, AIM, chatting) I always exercise caution, remembering my parent's words of advice. I never give out my address, phone number, high school; I usually volunteer to drive, just in case there's alcohol; I never leave my cup unattended at social events; I don't walk alone at night if I can help it.

If parents talk, much as kids try not to listen, some of it sticks...

Well if you're kids had been raised the right way you shouldn't have to worry. And if you do, just watch what your kids do (ie, time limits, amp's filter, etcetera).

It's hazardous, if I was older and had kids, my children would definately not be allowed to have one, sexual predators, abusive ideas, I myself, am not even allowed to chat.

The insanity of clpo. I know what you mean. Apparently no one on this thread does. Doesn't it feel good to be a vet(veteran)?
