I hate how the media says you have to look a certain way or you won't be considered beautiful. I know at least 3 people who have battled eating disorders (including myself), and while a lot of it comes from other things, a lot of it is from the media. I love the new ads Dove has been coming out with, the ones with real women. Seventeen magazine has also been doing a lot of spreads lately with girls who have normal body types, instead of the old 100-pound twigs.

I sooo agree with the whole I hate images on t.v. thing. The Image is totally overrated. Im doing a lot of research on anorexia nervosa and I am pissed about how many doctors say there are other reasons girls get anorexic.Every time I open 17 magazine I feel I have 2 look like everyone else, even though they send some good messages, they are full of crap. In my words, "America the wannabe thin and beautiful."

I totally agree w/ yall ppl. I'm skinny & pretty, but would never go to a extint of changing myself for a stupid tabloide and what guys and the press think about me. I'm happy w/ the way i am and i dont need to change. Lets all just stand tall & proud of who we really are!!!!!!!1

It's kind of gross when women get too much of all those Botox injections and plastic surgery. It just ends up looking weird. Like Janice Dickinson! It's like, whoaa...and imagine how much money they spend on it! It's crazy!

That's Bonanabizlry to you, mister.

yeah... i hate vogue and cosmopolitan for making young girls believe that the more thin you are the more beautiful and sexy you are...

i myself suffered from anorexia two years ago... i'd cry as i flipped through beauty mags and go hours without eating...

the media makes you feel ugly. magazines make you feel dull and fat. we are forced to believe that having no bones pushing out of a skimpy, flimsy outfit would make you fat. and fat would make you ugly. sure, noone says obesity is a pleasant thing... but being bony does not make you beautiful!

at 17 and just 5'1" i'll probably never look like kate moss or nicole kidman... and frankly, i f***ing don't care. Razz

I agree with both of you guys. I had anorexia/bulimia/self-injury for about 2 years because of all of that image stuff (thank goodness it's over!) and as a result, i'm now underweight and probably somewhat unhealthy.. It's so incredibly American though, isn't it? I mean, there are plenty of cultures around the world that view a more healthy looking body as a sign of beauty and prosperity. I have to wonder what made that change... I believe it was back in the 20s when Coco Chanel was introduced to America..

She told him that it didn't matter to her, and so she didn't have an engagement ring.

Did you know that my dad has never bought my mother a diamond? Yeah, and they've been married for quite some time now...I guess this means that we don't need diamonds!

Nope. Not so, my friend.

It goes both ways - but women just happen to know how to end up more on the receiving end than men when it comes to diamonds and jewellery and the likes....

And Amp's right, those jewellers are really missing some great profits, aren't they?

Barbie is so stinking tall. Seriously...she'd have like a two foot neck and be 7 1/2 feet tall or something like that.

You know, I'm sort of scared that someone took the time to figure out the ratios neccesary to know her bra-size. ::cough::freedom ::cough::

I agree about portraying women like that. I have seriously considered writing to a number of jewelers and telling them off for portraying women as such materialistic morons in their commercials.
