yeah... i hate vogue and cosmopolitan for making young girls believe that the more thin you are the more beautiful and sexy you are... i myself suffered from anorexia two years ago... i'd cry as i flipped through beauty mags and go hours without eating... the media makes you feel ugly. magazines make you feel dull and fat. we are forced to believe that having no bones pushing out of a skimpy, flimsy outfit would make you fat. and fat would make you ugly. sure, noone says obesity is a pleasant thing... but being bony does not make you beautiful! at 17 and just 5'1" i'll probably never look like kate moss or nicole kidman... and frankly, i f***ing don't care.

I really think that the media should portray more realistic looking people. I understand that some girls are naturally thin, and I respect that, but the media should also portray women who aren't super-skinny alongside those who are. Some girls I know are absolutely gorgeous but refuse to believe me when I tell them that since they have a little bit of a tummy, and they associate weight with uglyness. This is far from true. Sure, too much weight is bad, mostly for health reasons, but having a little weight is fine, and has nothing to do with beauty. I'm just sick of the media portraying women as these plastic-skinned, botox-injected, plastered with make-up stick figures! Also as a side note, a few weeks back I saw a fashon show on tv, and not that I'm all into fashion, but this show just thrilled me. It was all plus-sized models, and many of them were quite beautiful. Seeing that made me more confident about my own image. I'm somewhat heavy, about 175lbs. or so, but I still get compliments on my apperance, as well as have the occasional person admit to having a crush on me.

quote: Make up is temporary
The thing that sickens me the most is when people turn to plastic surgery to get the look that they want. Now a days people can even get there make up tattooed onto there skin so that they never have to reapply...to me this is unlogical but you know....some people are just so insecure these days that they have to look like there favorite celebritys...........ITS CALLED BEING DIFFRENT PEOPLE....be yourself and trust me you will be noticed...eat what YOU want...WHEAR what YOU want...Do what YOU want...DONT LET THE MEDIA CONTROL YOUR LIFE..........

I always knew the difference between reality and fantasy. Barbie is fantasy and not reality. So the idea that girls have to look like this toy never made any sense to me. My hobbies include collecting toys from dolls to diecaste planes. My favorites includes planes and ships. I have a fear of extrene heights and cannot swim in reality. I can appreciate the beauty of Barbie without making it a beauty standard for real girls or women. A doll must appeal to my personality. The original ones looked as if they were always sad or about to die in my opinion. If one always remember to keep reality and fantasy in their proper place then that would solve the problem. Having an action figure with huge muscles and unbelievable body never made me want to try and attain that look. I knew that it was not what was right for me. The best that I could be was all right by me. When somebody tries to attain the unrealistic form of an action figure or a doll, then they have a serious problem. My brother's kid loves her doll though it has no feet and is covered in bite marks on its arms and legs. She has no desire to look like that doll. However, she plays with it a whole lot. A toy is suppose to be fun and bring joy. It all depends upon the girl or boy. No matter how much it costs or what it looks like, it is up to the individual to determine its worth.

Did you know that if you had the same proportions as Barbie, you would not have the ability to stand because her "D" breasts would make her topple over...

Yea. Make up is temporary. It's funny tho. People strive to be "different" but WE end up looking the same. I think the other problem here is the fact that people label.
"I'm not lost anymore." Why not? "Same way anything lost gets found. I stopped looking."

It's interesting to note that the vast majority of females I run into look much better without makeup, hair coloring, etc. Most of the "good looking" celebrities, ironically, look much uglier without makeup than a lot of females I know when they do not use makeup.

I agree. Not everyone is blonde with blue eyes and all of that.Practically all of the girls in my school look the same. Who really wants to look the same as everyone else? I sure don't.
You laugh at me because I'm different; I laugh at you because you're all the same!
