For the poor heathens who don't know Epic metal is heavy metal based in the themes of sword, sorcery and the fantastic. It also hearkens back to older days and the roots of metal with sword and viking helm.
Epic metal alsu usually includes symhponic themes which is a mixture of a metal band, a symphony and a choir. This produces some absolutely insane songs which sound in a word amazing.

Symphonic Metal Bands to Try:
Nightwish
Amon Amarth
Symphony X
Sonata Arctica

Epic Metal Bands to Try:
Hammerfall
Dragonforce
(only two I know off the top my head, will add more when I get back to my playlist at home)

Then we are in the same boat (though i'm kinda oblivious to any/all things Guitar Hero).

Trivium is another sweet power/epic metal group. Their most recent album The Crusade has an awesome song on there called "Becoming the Dragon".

Sorry amp, but I gotta say, not a fan of Dragonforce. The best part about that group is Herman Lee. I just find that they are plagued with misdirection & a terrible lead singer.

Like I said dude it was only one example, not a band I personally enjoy. I like only one of their songs and that's the one on guitar hero

Iced Earth for the win.

Cheated the way from fringe to elite. Clique of stylists, rounded illogic skipping a beat to a dead cert. By lheaving charges and bursting the abscess, with a forked toungue, bloated with courage and spewing self-importance. Drop your sights, aim lower, leave umblemished those with real power.

Dude "Through the Fire and the Flames" (dragonforces big hit) is the unlockable for Guitar Hero 3 and is seriously insanely hard to play. It's hailed by reviewers as the most difficult song in franchise history
