I love Harry Potter and am a Christian. My parents have absolutely no objection to me or my siblings reading it. My favorite character was Sirius until he died so now it is Lupin who was my second favorite character.
I also agree that the third movie was sooo much better than the other two and the dvd is coming out around my birthday so yayy!!!! Big Grin

It's my time to fly...

Well I'm not gonna avoid OotP spoilers here. It's been out about a year so it shouldn't be news to anyone that Sirius died in the fifth book. Sirius was my favorite character and my friends didn't have the sense to tell me not go get attached to him so I was really upset (I didn't get into the books until it had been out for a couple months). Well my friend Moony was upset because supposedly one of her favourite characters on something (I think it was Yu-Gi-Oh... yeah, Joey, him. lol) was supposed to die in the next episode. She knew I could relate because of Sirius and we just started talking about losing loved ones, fictional and real and she asked me where I got my peace about them dying from. I told her about the peace of knowing that Jesus died to save us from eternal death so we could join him in heaven and that I knew everything was going to be alright, like my grandpa and friend Mallory would be waiting for me when I died. She found it all quite fascinating and felt a lot better. And Joey didn't die after all! At least not in that episode, I really don't keep up with that show.lol I don't watch TV. too busy.
So yeah, I'm still praying for her but she got to wondering. So that's how I got to use it to witness.

Yeah, I have a friend whos parents dont allow her to read or see anything with witchcraft in it <ouch> and she has developed a sense that Harry Potter is evil... and she gives me grief about it... but noone else does

quote:
I remember the day after the "Pillar of Storge" hoax (good grief could anyone Siriusly fall for that?) was when I found out about the real title, "Half Blood Prince" who I personally think is Lupin, Snape, or maybe Hagrid.

Yes, "Pillar of Storge" would've been an incredibly stupid title... I agree w/ u about the half blood prince... but it easily could be somebody who we haven't heard of in any of the earlier HP books... Sadly, there may only be "half blood prince" and one following book remaining in the series... I hope JK Rowling decides to write about Harry's post-Hogwarts life...

i LOVE harry potter. my friend argued with me so much about it. i swear i heard harry potter is EVIL about fifty times. scratch that. more like 12,000 times. god my friend was so ANNOYING. here's one of our arguements.

her- magic wizards witches and warlocks and all that stuff is WRONG!
me- is harry potter real?
her- no BUT IT"S WRONG
me- has harry potter ever mentioned the devil?
her- no but-
me- has he ever mentioned god?
her- no but that's the point
me- how exactly is h.p bad?
her- if harry doesn't to godly things he obviously does what? EVIL
me- what ungodly things has he done?
her- (oh you'll love this) go on national telivision and do magic for money
me- is harry potter real?
her- NO!
me- then how exactly does he do magic for money?
her- he acts as if he does!
me- all harry potter is is a childs idea of magic
her- to me if it doesn't talk about god it's wrong
me- the world is not seperated into godly and EVIL. we're going to be in a band but not every song is going to be about god. is that evil?
her- shut up

hahaha it was like talking to an overemotional toddler going I CAN"T HEAR YOU!

ya i knew it wasnt either if them it would make it too obvious and from what ive seen from rowling she doesnt like to make things obvious. so since shes have another kid, the book is gonna take a long time isnt it?
ya im kind of the same way. ive read each book at least four times. my favorite is the fourth one. i love all the twists in it.

Her baby boy, David is probably who you're thinking of, but she's expecting a third one.
No the HBP is neither Harry nor Voldemort, according to JK, and Neville is pure blood. Remember St. Mungos? his parents are both there. And Dumbledore said that Voldemort "chose the halfblood like himself" over the pureblood to be his marked equal.
man i'm a nerd! I've read this book about 3 times only and i have it memorized. lol!

COOL! lol sorry I luv babies as much as I luv Sirius, and that's saying something *grins in a wicked, I'm-so-obsessed-with-Sirius-I-can't-think-about-anything-without-making-a-reference-back-to-him way*
Ok cutting the comedy, I remember the day after the "Pillar of Storge" hoax (good grief could anyone Siriusly fall for that?) was when I found out about the real title, "Half Blood Prince" who I personally think is Lupin, Snape, or maybe Hagrid. But I don't know for sure. I just want to know what was up with the Severus-Sirius school life, which is supposedly explained some time coming up. I want to know why they hated each other so much. I mean, who could hate either of them, no matter how annoying Snape is to Harry?lol

What I don't get, is that if JK Rowling was a witch and capable of brainwashing kids, why would she waste her time writing books?

Yeah, I thought that he did a good job acting the part, but it certainly wasn't the Sirius I'd imagined. But whatever...

I read Harry Potter and my parents don't have a problem with it at all. My mom has even taken me to each movie because she has wanted to see them too. I really think that no Christian or anyone else should have a problem with it. It's FICTION and if you can't tell the difference then you shouldn't be reading the books in the first place.

But I do have a friend whose parents are borderline fundie Christians and she isn't allowed to read the books or see the movies. But they don't care if she reads LOTR (which also has wizardy)....go figure...

Because they never gave it a chance you know? Like redrepublican said my religion overreacted *sighs* I used to be suspicious that the books might really have real witchcraft like everyone kept telling me but then I thought "there'd be a buyer's warning that it did you know?"

But they've gotten pretty lax on the whole subject of Harry Potter so it's better than nothing right?

Spatula: yay! another Sirius fan! lol do you think Gary Oldman did a good job as him in the movie (if you've seen it)? I think he may not have looked anything like what I imagined but he was awesome all the same. Smile
