Okay, Titanic was an aberration. I remember seeing it for the first time and being much suprised. It wasn't as explicit as some R-rated movies I've seen, though, but still more than a PG-13 movie should have.

Have any of you seen The Name of the Rose? I believe it was made in the 80's, but it has the most out of nowhere completely nude show-all sex scene I've ever watched.
Truly unecessary.

Nobody should have sex. Yes, ESPECIALLY heterosexuals.

Clever, darthmalak.

What I wanted to say was that movies are a little like books. It is necessary to give some people a lure into watching them. Hence, much sex.

Only simple and quiet words will ripen of themselves. For a whirlwind does not last a whole morning, nor does a sudden shower last the entire day.

Well thanks, Wookie.

Usually it's pretty good about sex, but yes, I do believe Hollywood goes a little over the lines sometimes.

Not always true. Take Titanic, a PG-13 movie.

Titanic is my most common example, because of both it's popularity and its rating versus sex content. In the scene where Jack is drawing Rose, we see a butt and a breast. Normally that would equate to an "R" rating. AND, while in the car, it is VERY obvious that they are sexually intimate. Of course, this is implied, but we do know that they are both in the nude, very sweaty, and being intimate in general. How did this escape an "R"?

It's not that it's uncreative, it's that sex is what gets people's attention these days. A shortened attention span (due to a great many things, not just the onset of increased media access) has led to more large explosions and sex in movies, whereas a gunshot and some light kissing was enough to excite people fifty years ago.

Perhaps it also reflects changing morals. In the thirties and forties, people rallied to eliminate anything vaguely sexual from movies. Couples couldn't even sleep in the same bed on-screen. Today, however, people in general are a bit more relaxed when it comes to sex. No doubt, this is a result of the "free love" generation growing up and becoming the people that make decisions in society. They had no problem with sex, therefore they make movies with it.

There is probably a whole host of reasons why sex has made more of an appearance in movies today. I can't possibly list out all of them

However, I would like to point out that sex in movies (not even real sex, mind you, but implied sex) is limited to certain age ratings. In the US, you'll see no sex outside of an R-rated movie. This is because people older than seventeen are considered "mature" enough to view such content. Fair enough, considering that seventeen is around the age at which many teens become sexually active. Whether that's right or wrong is for another topic entirely.

I personally don't mind sex in movies if it adds something to the movie or is realistic in the context. Certain sex scenes are gratuitous and simply boring, such as the one in the second Matrix. What the heck? In any case, people do have the choice not to watch movies with sexual content. Not all movies contain sex. There are movies where lovers don't end up in a bed together. But one must question the reality in a movie like that. If two people love each other, it's only natural that they would make love at one point in time. Not everybody waits for marriage, especially considering how strong sexual attraction can be in love.

Well, I rambled on and off topic there. Make what sense of it you can.
