I never followed the Olsen twins but I read a little more about them when it was released to the press that Mary-Kate was checking into rehab for anorexia. There was a big hype about this which I found strange since there are a lot of celebrities that are privately anorexic but never release it. I also read a lot of stuff about their fans having less respect for them now that one of them has an eating disorder but I think that would be ridiculous to change your opinion about someone, especially a celebrity, over an eating disorder.
It's expected almost of their fans that they be pretty and skinny but now that people are discovering that one of them has taken the pressure too hard and developed an eating disorder, people are like, "oh how stupid i hate them"
I dunno, I've never seen any of their movies besides some Full House episodes, but what do you guys think about the Olsens going public with this and did it change/make any of your opinions when you heard/read this?

Eh I think people need to realize that celebrities are people too. That they also have problems, and go through things. People seem to expect them to be perfect though.

I doubt you ever know what's going on. Let this thread die in peace.
I like these calm little moments before the storm.

I feel very sorry for her. While other girls are just battling anorexia, Mary-Kate is battling anorexia and the press. It's not very fair that other girls do this privatley and she has to do it in the public eye..just my opinion.

You guys, anorexia is a disease. No one should be making fun of her. She can't help it. It's teh same thing with depression and alcoholism. IT IS NOT THEIR FAULT. It's a disease. I mean, I don't know about you, but I don't make fun of people who have cancer. Isn't it basically the same thing?

Anyone remember when the Olsen Twins were just 'those cute babies on Full House'?
Now they've become a coorporate marketing machine unto themselves, they are bought and sold like a commodity and there is nothing about them that is of real substance or talent. They are ridiculously thin and made-up looking, and I think its very harmful they are being peddled as role models for young girls.
We need less Britneys, Jessica Simpsons and Olsens and more Tori Amos's, Madonnas, Vanessa Carltons and Norah Jone's.

i really don't care/bother following these celebs cuz i really don't think its my business what goes on in their lives. like really, would you like to have all your deepest secrets revealed to everyone? ya, maybe it ain't so great she's anorexic, but at least shes getting help for it.

geez she isn't on coke that has been released to the press several times. i picked up a tabloid magazine and right next to that was a story about brittany hanging out the balcony of her hotel with an alien, and a story about a fat cat that went on the atkins diet and lost too much weight.
it seems like the new thing the media is pinning on celebrities is drug abuse. i remember a few years ago, it was that they were "gay". leonardo dicaprio, keanu reeves, jonathan taylor thomas, were all "gay" in the papers sometime. now everyone is "on drugs" or "getting plastic surgery of some sort".

you can weigh 100 lbs and still be fatter than someone who weighs 115 theoretically. muscle weighs more than fat but doesn't always show so people that are like 10 pounds apart can look the same weight when they aren't.
yeah mary kate and ashley both look the same to me but i guess ashley isn't anorexic because if she is, she sure missed the boat on getting help because now it will be an even bigger bust. headlines: "SECOND OLSEN TWIN SNAPS INTO FIT OF ANOREXIA-TWO WERE SEEN IN CUBA SMOKING BONG! CLINIC STORY JUST A COVERUP FOR ESCAPING THE COUNTRY!!!" ok maybe not as dramatic but i really think if the other twin was anorexic, she would have admitted it/gotten help at the same time as her sister.

The pressure put on celebrities to look perfect is enormous. Hillary Duff, in an article with Seventeen, said "I feel pressure to fit in my clothes." (Or something like that, I apologize I dont have my magazine with me.) And for those of you who think they look the same- there's a difference between thin and skinny. If you look at pictures from their New York Minute primeir, she is pure skin and bones. I made the prediction that she was anorexic to my friend weeks before she went public about it. I admire her for checking into a clinic, and hope she gets well soon.

I agree. If Mary-Kate didn't have brown hair I wouldn't be able to tell them apart. They were always skinny.

Honestly, I think the twins look about the same size. How can one be anorexic and the other be healthy? I'm sure they had to maintain about the same weight as each other.

I feel sorry for her, she is trying to get help and it's all over the freaking news. I don't really care, I never really thought of them as anything, so I can't say. I think all of this is stupid and I don't know why people care. Millions of people are anorexic, ect. and it isn't all over the news. And, isn't the news supposed to be about things that are a little bit... MORE IMPORTANT? You gotta love American TV. -Sunset

quote: name three other celebrities that have gone public about an eating disorder?
Paula Abdul, Princess Diana, Jamie Lynn Sigler That wasn't even hard. quote: and name three celebrities you are pretty sure have an eating disorder?
It's rude to speculate.
