I am christian and i have alot of friends that are not. I listen to mostly, Relient K, Pillar, Kutless and so on. Alot of my friends belive that Christian Music is an oxymoron. I asked one of my friends and this is what he said.

Me: Do you think that Christian Rock is an oxymoron?
Andy: Yes.
me: why?
Andy: Um.
Andy: Usually, Christians have soft music.

I personally dont think that Christian music is an oxymoron. There are a lot of bands in the christian market that rock harder than most secular bands i know. But. I just dont know how to explain it. They (my friends) think that christians are conservative and think that we listen to soft christian music. and. well. thats not true. What do you all think?

I've done that. Actually my friend already listened to A bunch of the bands, Then I told him, and he didn't believe me. But he still likes those bands, even though he knows they are christian. *yay mo*

Hello...My name is Val...Well I am a Christian too and I truly believe that Christian Rock, Rap, Jazz or anything like that (you all know what I mean) is fine. God doesn't care how you come or where you come to praise HIM. All that matters to HIM is that you came. I'm not really into the whole Christian rap scene, because Rap usually is about sex, drugs, and murder. But, I'm not totally against it. Relient K isn't a true Christian band. Thats where they broke into the music scence, just like Thrice or that one chick (have no clue what her name is). I love music. I'm in 3 different bands. I listen to the secular stuff and the Christian stuff too. I'm not to big on swearing in songs or rap but I love music. You can't always say that all Secular music is bad and all Christian music is goody goody..I mean, seriously what is music? How did it start? It started by people wanting to praise God and all that he's done. But, people take things and extort them...So let me leave on a final note...Music is music as long as its music! That might not make sense but...hey..
Val

i am a christian and i dont agree when they put christian lyrics to rap. rap is what get gangsters hyped up to go and do there jobs like drive by shooting selling drugs. you know before i became a christian i used to sit in the graveyards at night with my friends then and smoke weed do pot you know DRUGS. and we would listen to christian rock and rap. i would be like this music is so cool but you know how powerful is that music if i could sit in a graveyard and listen to this so called music and do drugs. the lyrics barely ever mean anything these days. after a while of listening to this music i began to want to hear the real thing so i went and bought real ceccular music. this music did nothing to help me. but you know what music did help me was the real classic christian music. shout to the lord, his eye is on the sparrow classics. not this imatation of the world. so yes i do think the new christian music is oxymoron

As long as the lyrics are Christian, I really don't care if the way the message is delivered is 'hard rock'. Just because I am a Christian does not mean I don't like the sound of rock music! I really enjoy listening to many different types of music, including songs like "Here I am to Worship" and even some Christian rap.
I love Shawn McDonald, Third Day, Matthew West and many, many others. If the message is meaningful and touches you in a special place, the way it is delivered is not as important.

i am a christian myself and at first i had doubts about HARD christian rock because hard rock is generally to conjure up anger about one's happenings in their life. I read in this forum what one kid said about christians just having rock music because they want to be COOL????? rofl. that is just like a blinded fool to think that this is an issue pertaining to something that kids let control their lives. coolness is something that is popular due to the fact that you can't be your own person so you have to follow what everyone else is doing. it is for the weak and is merely a TREND. the general reason of one making fun of godly religion is simply because they are afraid to sacrifice but MOST OF ALL BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING IT. people who are mindless, blind sheep are in their own little world....christians who KNOW WHAT'S UP have an understanding to the lyrics of these christian rock songs..just as they have an understanding of the words in the Bible. this is why the meek can't listen to this music. try to have a fool read the book of proverbs (or any book for that matter). you know..a "cool" kid with a mohawk or someone that listens to tool...it would be foreign to him. this is how christian music lyrics are to alot of followers. hard christian rock is cool because it's something for wise people to enjoy if they like getting angry about what this world has become and if they like getting pumped up about who they are and what they are apart of. the majority of kids were, sadly, raised by a television and their dad/mom's rock/rap music. it was a consistancy of satan 's for it to be that way. it is truely sad at what the world has been and is becoming but certainly not a surprise. it is now "cool" to go around saying "666 dude!", wearing the logo "satan rules" on tshirts and laughing at, as they deliquately put it, us "jesus freaks". it is ALOT easier to make fun of godly religion but ALOT harder to take a stand for it. so all of you christians out there continue to be strong and listen to that loud voice in the back of your mind. i wouldn't dare subject myself to anything worldy and you shouldn't either. stay in the light and continue to be a warrior in this world-wide war. you are apart of something that most people do not and will not comprehend. it is a huge thing. bigger than tool! The grateful dead shows actually do the same as sermons do, bring people together.

Funny how the agnostics/athiests figured it out.

Fifty years ago Conservative Christians were saying that rock and roll was the devil. But it seems somewhere along the way they started jumping up and down whining: "I wannna be cool tooooo".
Well; good luck with that.
