Christian Rock gives me a headache. Actually music about any religion bothers me unless it's in a church or something...

I totally get what you're saying. I'm a Christian and I happen to listen to a lot of secular music and Christian music. I tend to not listen to much of the "worship" music that is so popular with adults right now. I turn it on every now and then, but I think that you can worship just as well to Switchfoot or Seven Places or Kevin Max. God doesn't look at the music, he looks at the heart.

quote: And Softball, dont say that Relient K is a Christian band. Yes, they dont talk about inappropriate things (I have some of their CDs, so I know), but singing about chapped lips and Sadie Hawkins' dances doesnt exactly scream "Here I Am to Worship...". They arent a terribly bad band, but they arent of the Christian genre.
well, they aren't all christian music, but if you go back to when they first started out as a band, they do have christian music, but i luv sadie hawkins dance. the lyrics are dumb, but it's like the best song ever. what i don't think is exactly a christian band would be switchfoot. i'm a fan of switchfoot, and they sound a lot like christian bands(like jars of clay and stuff,) but they're not exactly a christian band. quote: Maybe Christian rap, because rap is associated with drugs, sex, and getting drunk, but I guess Christian rap could happen (it depends on what the rapper is saying).
christian rap DOES exist. i have some CDs that are specifically labeled as Christian rap

I listen to Christian rock every now and then. Mostly I like Stephen Curtis Chapman, dc Talk, and Switchfoot. Personally, I don't like the "worship" music that some people find interesting. You know, a familiar psalm or hymn just rocked up a bit? Nah, that's not my type. I figure if you want to listen to music like that, go to church and pick up a hymn book. I prefer a little less "holier than thou" attitude. Take SCC, for instance. On his "All About Love" album, only a few of the songs have lyrics pertaining to anything Christian. The rest are about, how's this for a surprise, love. A good deal are dedicated to his wife. And on the other two CDs of his that I own, he has a number of Christian songs, but they're easy for teens to relate to. Plus, he has some nice guitar riffs. So does dc Talk for that matter. "Jesus Freak" is my favorite Christian song, aside from "All About Love". Ironically, I'm listening to Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" whilst I write this.
The more you know, the less you don't know.

I find it rather amusing that christian bands have songs on the radio that talk about worship but the public doesn't realize, therefore getting the message into their heads. Hopefully, the public will begin to know... BTW Kutless, Pillar, Relient K, and Skillet are some of my favorites. Daniel's window is also really good too...

Come on people, you're basing your responses on mainstream music. When you hear a song on the radio and hear the melodies and rhythms and stuff, you automatically know what genre of music it is. A heavy, heavy beat is usually hip hop. A lot of guitars and loud, fast paced music, usually rock. Christian music is basically music that incorporates Christian messages into their lyrics. There's no rule that says you can only praise God with soft music. Pfft. Some people like loud music, others like alot of bass, others like alot of violins and horns. As long as the music features a positive, inspirational message that teaches the word of God and the Christian religion, it shouldn't be a big issue.

The last good christian music was written by Ralph Vaughn Williams. Most everything since hasn't been very theologically or musicaly sound(of course there were a few Benjiman Brittons in there but mostly it's been bad) Honorablecoalition.tripod.com Whereas; This message has hereby been proudly deemed racism and bigotry free by the Great and Honorable Coalition Against Racism. Yes christians can rock with the powers of Day of Fire, Hyper Sonic Union, Toby Mac, Skillet and many, many more. It's music the praises the Lord and makes you want to crank your stereo up pardon but I forgot several christian groups are undercover as secular groups see if you know these names: P.O.D and switch foot to start but I'm going on and on try to find more on the secular boards on your own

I listen to everything (even what bauhaus listed). But I don't like Christian music that much. The reason why people say that Christian rock or Christian rock is an "oxymoron" is because rock just isn't rock without screaming and a curse word here and there. Same with rap. There are some clean rockers but there are no clean rappers. To me, Christian music says, "I'm going to praise God and you're all going to listen to me do it." It's bordering on making others worship God (like when, "I Can Only Imagine" was all over the radio). But I like some Christian groups like Point of Grace and I used to like Creed (not so much anymore). And I've heard that Switchfoot is Christian but I don't really notice when I listen to them. I only have one song that I downloaded from Relient K and wasn't aware they were a Christian band until I came here. My boyfriend likes a lot of Christian stuff like Kutlass and Mercy Me. The only song I really like by Mercy Me is the one I mentioned above.

Since they have so many songs with Christian themes, I will simply list a few off the top of my head, and in no particular order: Trademark I Am Understood? Getting Into You Falling Out Down in Flames Maybe It's Maybeline My Way or the Highway... Less is More Who I Am Hates Who I've Been This Week, The Trend Apathetic Maintain Consciousness Hello McFly Wake Up Call Staples And I am sure there are more, but those are the ones I can remember without going and listening to all the songs again.

Several of their songs concern Christian ideals and ideas. Some may not, but some do.

I know they are in Christian book stores, but I dont see how they can be Christian. Maybe because they dont talk about inappropriate things, but then a lot of other bands should be considered Christian then...

Relient K can be found in Christian book stores, thus they are a Christian band. I have all of their albums, and enjoy them time to time.

I dont get how people can say that Christian music is an oxymoron. Maybe Christian rap, because rap is associated with drugs, sex, and getting drunk, but I guess Christian rap could happen (it depends on what the rapper is saying). But take UnderOath, Blindside, P.O.D - they are all heavy, Christian rock bands that talk about Christian things in metaphorical (I'm guessing that that is a word, but y'all know what I mean) way. And Softball, dont say that Relient K is a Christian band. Yes, they dont talk about inappropriate things (I have some of their CDs, so I know), but singing about chapped lips and Sadie Hawkins' dances doesnt exactly scream "Here I Am to Worship...". They arent a terribly bad band, but they arent of the Christian genre.

Nicely put, Jenos. Maybe "Christian rap? Oxymoron?" would have been more fitting?

You need to give members more than 45 minutes to respond. Simmer down. How is Christian music an oxymoron? They have gospel, that's music.
