I think it has to do with the fact that much of young society glorifies the idea of "living it up," especially when you are in your late teens and early 20s. Going out, partying and getting trashed every weekend, getting as much booty as possible, doing certain popular drugs like cocaine , acting like a total 'socialite' is ideal. They have to 'live it up' because 'life is short,' as they say. Little do they realize that many of them will end up in prison (as Richie, Lohan, and Paris have already set as an example) or dead before they reach 30. There's nothing wrong with partying and having fun, don't get me wrong. But these girls like Lohan and such go over the deep end with it, and spin totally out of control. And Paris Hilton is what...25, 26? Seriously, this behavior is a little more expected by Lohan at only 21...but when you're over 25 and acting like this, it's a little pathetic. There's a time to grow up.

I think maybe in a way it's because they are in the public eye and there is so much pressure on them to be perfect. I'm not saying what they do is okay, but it's probably not the easiest life being a celebrity.
