I actually loved the movie it was thought provoking. It reminded me of 1984 and also of occurrances now. If we dont stop and pay attention we'll be living in that type of society soon enough. The seeds are already being planted examples are the taping of phones and surveillance. We have the beginnings of a Big Brother, totalitarian gov't already and Bush is a tyrant in the making. God Bless America.

Look up paralelism in the dictionary quote: I had high hopes for this movie, since I really liked movies like Equilibrium and books like 1984. However, V for Vendetta fell flat because it was so thinly veiled. There was no subtlety to it. The message of the movie was not "beware creeping totalitarianism". It astounds me that you failed to realize that it was made like that on purpose. It's not a movie for inteligent and politically knowledgeable people, it's a movie for idiots that are used to watching action movies and don't have any sort of political understanding. The geniality lies in the simplicity that make's the political message understandable to everyone, not in how deep the message is. It's not meant to be deep at all. It was obviously incredibly simple from my point of view, just the same as for you, but it's universal accesibility make's it great. It could be called a form of revealing mediatic populism.

So you think that the movie portray's things "as they are"? Really? I don't see death squads wandering the streets here enforcing Fascist fundamentalist Christian laws. There's no vehement hatred of Muslims here. No secret police raping anyone. And there's really no threat of that happening. I had high hopes for this movie, since I really liked movies like Equilibrium and books like 1984. However, V for Vendetta fell flat because it was so thinly veiled. There was no subtlety to it. The message of the movie was not "beware creeping totalitarianism". What really lost the movie for me was when they killed the TV host guy when "they found that he had a Quran". That was just absurd. No, they WOULDN'T kill him for the subersive art he had, the fact that he was a homosexual, the fact that he had embarassed the head of state.... No, they found the Quran and that was SO MUCH MORE OFFENSIVE to them than anything else, they killed him. That was just absurd, and really exemplified the political slant the movie had. 1984, etc, are about the IDEA of totalitarianism. V turned into a sermon on the woes of wacko fundamentalists/Bush/USA, which everyone already KNOWS are bad, except for the fundies themselves. So, in short, it had potential, but they blew it. I was dissapointed.

it is no where near as good as 1984, Orwell's book is pure genius. It's quite clear who is a con and who's a liberal by reading the responses. This movie is by far one of the most effortless attempts by Hollywood to bash the United States and Christianity. And as a vigilant movie-goer, with the release of this, films have completely lost my respect as a medium of entertainment. "People should not be afraid of their government. The government should be afraid of their people." is the first quote where it becomes obvious that this is nothing more than an overrated attempt to make money by bashing the U.S. When I saw this film, I left after finding out that the government that was holding England in an iron grip was Christian. If you want to know who the real totalatarian is, look at Islam. They preach hatred, jigonism, and murder, they murder government officals to rig elections, and decapitate their own people for the world to see. On FOX not long ago, they showed a film of Zarkawi, or however you spell his name, cutting his son's head off, with him still alive and screaming for him to stop. That makes me afraid to drive by the mosque that is just down the road from my house. Taking note of another part of the film that a fellow Christian friend of mine told me later, there was mention of "the war we started." Islam is a threat to everyone, and to say that we are over there just to exploit gas and oil is pure bull. Sure, we could leave and let Islam have there way, but why should we? Iraq has made great strides into democracy while we've been there. Oh before I forget, if anyone has taken notice, you would note that in England right now, there are more mosques than churches. Old churches have been torn down and mosques have been built over them. Maybe I'm being a little too truthful but it would've made more sense for Islam to be in V's crosshairs than Christianity. After all, they are dominating the religious sphere in England. Everyone can believe what they want about V and movies in general, and can deny that Islam is the greater threat to the world than we are. But remember this. Hollywood is run by liberals who hate the U.S. and everything it stands for. Call me a racist or an angry conservative if you want. I don't care. I support our government and our military, no matter what they face.

When Evey stays at her friend's house (Gordon) she sees an odd picture in a secluded room. They go into the room where he has a lot of gay male photography, a picture of the Chancellor as the Queen in a Andy Warhol-type artwork that had been banned, a old (14th century?) copy of the Qur'an, and other assorted "banned" items. Gordon explains that he is now numb to the world (sexually and culturally) because he has been so long suppressed.

I'm late but I just have to post here because I finally saw it. One of the most amazing films I've ever seen. It had it ALL, the action the message the acting... It left nothing to be desired, it was great. Natalie Portman is incredible (She's gorgeous even with a shaved head... that bitch) and Hugo Weaving was perfect. Plus the movie made me want to research Guy Fawkes, so kudos for the incentive to learn as well! I left the cinema feeling a bit disturbed because, while the ending was inspiring, it was also completely unrealistic. In real life governments that would never happen. And the movie just gives this impression that politics is a game and once you figure out the rules then you can just manipulate the other players until you win it. Quite depressing. Hey, what happens when Evey first goes down to the basement of the very unfunny TV personality guy? He starts showing her stuff, but what does he show her, because I think the cinema may have cut something out here. There was artwork of the queen and then there was a little jerk in the movie, they talk about him being gay and then later they mention something briefly about finding a Koran in his house, so either they cut out gayness or sth religious and either way, they totally suck because now I'm just much more interested in what happened. So if anyone remembers what it may have been, I'd appreciate it. Excellent movie. I should really start reading comic books because the movies based off of them are some of my favorites.
