The girls in the media these days look like toothpicks in designer clothes. Many of the supermodels in magazine have their pictures tweaked with a computer. What does this mean? It means you are buying a magazine full of fake, unrealistic little models who are seemingly perfect. This is absolutely UNFAIR. Girls who are healthy weights and sizes see these girls and immediately start to compare their bodies, to the body of a computer-generated toothpick. Look at the bodies of REAL women you know, like your teachers, aunts, older cousins and your mom. That is how real women look ^_^

The media does affect everyone, yes, but not necessarily to a huge extent, especially if you've learned to be skeptical of advertising. While a commercial may let me know of a product I might like, I don't buy it simply because the commercial told me to. I investigate the product through reviews from many sources and if I like what the product really is (as opposed to what the commercial says it is), I'll buy it. If not, I won't buy it.

The same goes for models and the "ideal" look. I couldn't care less how men are supposed to look or act. I'm quite happy with myself. Nothing a bit of exercise won't fix.

The media does have a huge impact on American people's lives. Because it's everywhere you look. Billboards, music, newspapers, magazines, art, TV, advertisements, etc. And don't act like it doesn't affect you because it does. Considering your "sheeple-esque" stance on black culture and civil rights, you're definitely a product of the media.

I don't think anyone mentioned that all skinny people had eating disorders. The problem we have is with the media portraying thin women as beautiful and larger women as unattractive. In the real world, that's simply untrue.

Most models are severely underweight for their height. How they got that way is debatable, but they ARE underweight. They are not healthy.

And trust me, a great majority of models do drugs. As do most musicians and most Hollywood actors/actresses. It's a symbol of affluence when you can blow 700 on..well, blow.

Models (for girls who are too insecure to have any self-esteem at all) set unreasonably high levels of beauty. But who cares? That's their job. They aren't raising our kids, we are. Any parent who has the balls to blame their child's eating disorder on Hollywood or models clearly shouldn't be a parent.

Hm. All this negativity..

I am really skinny, but i dont fricken starve myself!! And NO, not ALL modles throw up or get computer modified. Some of them, are in fact real people who have peelings. And, just because they are very skinny doesn't make them anerexic. Like me, I'm not anorexic, but i do have a very skinny body.

So, just don't judge all modles on what a few of them do.

What the hell is wrong with this girl, its because of people like her that we have people dying of anorexia every day.
And why the hell would you be jelouse of people starving themselves and counting callories every time they go to eat something.
seriousely this chic must be so screwed up in the head.

Edit: Beck0808, welcome to YN. Please do not insult other people on the boards. Also, do not use words such as "retarded" to refer to other members, some people really take offense to that word being used in that sense. Thank you.

I've got nothing against skinny girls. But starving yourself...no one actually finds that attractive. There's a fine line between naturally skinny and freakishly skinny.

i agree....guys like curves...that's what i've been told....they like something soft to hang on to......ya know??

ok, no one is an idiot. No one is jealous of a girl that weighs 75 pounds, and is going to be on her death bed in less than 1 year...no one is jealous of dying unless they are stupid!!!!!!!

Edit: Do not insult other people on the boards.
