When I think about most of the music out there today, i can come to one simple conclusion: it sucks! why? because, it is unoriginal, thoughtless, mass produced, crap! However, i think there are some musicians out there that i would consider musical genuises such as:

Marilyn Manson
Eminem
Linkin Park

now, you're probably saying, "he's crazy!" but think about it, you may not like their music, but their music definitly doesn't fall under the category previously mentioned; their music is shocking, controversial, and talks about things that most people would rather not mention. definitly not your run of the mill ****.

I mean geez, most the greatest artists ever were very controversial and non conformist during their time.

If you can think of anymore, let me know. Or if you think i'm crazy, well, say so.

and yes, ive heard of bond. i dont know much about them though. im not a big fan of their music, but train has great acoustics. a little too alternative for me. simple plan has a great voice though and i think that the barenaked ladies are "music geniuses" because everyone in the band does vocals and they write amazing songs and play tons of instruments. some of their songs are just so great. another postcard? anyone heard that?

Clay Aiken, in my opinion, is a musical genius. Many may not agree but that could never change my view. He has a great voice, but he also uses his star power to reach out to others. His newfound fame has given him the chance to reach out and help those in need by creating the Bubel/Aiken Foundation.

bs. I am sorry and i KNOW THIS WON'T CHANGE YOUR OPINION, but because he "reaches out to others" and "helps those in need", it does not make him anymore talented. Look at mozart! he was an idiot, but he was still genius. clay does not write any of his songs, play any of his music, or choreographer anything he does. he just does what his agent tells him to do. he sings what they give him to music they play and steps where they tell him to. there are so many people with equally great voices that can play their own instruments and have written their own songs to get the fame that they did

I agree with you, but you could prolly say the same thing about Christina Aguleria or someone of that nature because no matter what they do, and whether most people approve of it or not, they get huge publicity for it and thats exactly what their tring to do. Personally, I have to give Eminem props because not many people can do what he does with the rapping and putting up with everyones crap and all. I think Linkin Park is awesome, their one of my favorite bands, but I think Chester is gonna blow out his voice singing/yelling like that constantly. I don't know much about Marylin Manson, but I do have to say, if a guy that wears more make up than most women can still have a wide range of fans, then thats really cool, I mean who else do you know that can say that about themselves?

Cake is fairly recent, I'll confide in their music. But "Huboon Stomp" by DEVO is still my number one favorite song.

(Eminem and Marilyn Manson are the best!)
Thats just what i think....but i don't agree that music is just some mass produced crap! Its much more than that!
Most of it is feelings put into words to make really great songs!

my god, some of you have absolutely terrible taste in music. marilyn manson? he is an absolute psycho. there is nothing profound about his music. i would have to say the musical geniuses are
- janis joplin- her music completely defined the 60's.
- jimi hendrix- ditto
- bob marley- his music united a nation and spread the word of the rastas
- the beatles- changed rock and roll forever.
- led zepplin ( a band, i know, but still)- plays mean guitar.
- aretha franklin- hey, she's the voice herself
- cher- been aroung forever and it never dies (especially old cher and sonny and cher)
- marvin gaye- stayed aroung forever and brought old black culture to modern day times
- chuck berry- ditto
- all the old guys- beethoven, mozart. there music is still around and most of them were seriously ill mentally.
- johnny cash- influenced so much music.
- stephen sondheim- wrote a ton of music that plays all over the world
sorry if i forgot anyone, but the point is that no good musicians have been around for a while now
