Why is everyone freaking out about the movie Brokeback Mountain? I've heard that it's really great but where I live people are saying it's bad cuz it's about gay people. I don't hink it should matter. It's a love story either way.

She was saying that it's hypocracy because they claim to only love but are hating an entire group of people. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

What's more fucked up though is people cringing when I say the no-no phrase "gays and bisexuals" when explaining what the Day of Silence is. And then they say, "Well, why do it? I mean, I love gay people but think their actions are wrong." I guess some people are just stuck in the mud swimming in hypocrisy and ignorance, no matter how much they claim to love. Yep.
I do believe that's what she/he said. It's there in his/her own words.

quote: Alright see that's why people need to learn how to read.
you've said that plenty of times. Euterpe most definitally knows how to read. quote: I was saying that why is it someone else is a hypocrite when they have different views
Some one isn't a hypocryte because they don't agree. no one is saying that. quote: I think people just call others ignorant when they believe that homosexuality is wrong.
Well very often they go together, because if someone knew the causes of homosexuality or was able to look beyond their religious affiliation they would see that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality. Chosen ignorance is still ignorance, no matter what. quote: Do I think that's wrong yes?

Alright see that's why people need to learn how to read. I didn't say she was a hypocrite. I was saying that why is it someone else is a hypocrite when they have different views. I don't think she was using ignorant in "your" context. I think people just call others ignorant when they believe that homosexuality is wrong. Do I think that's wrong yes?

There was no need to define ignorant, smartass. She was right. Ignorant, however, does not mean just having little to no knowledge, not in the context in which she used it. These people refuse knowledge. And she is not a hypocrite. She never said that she hated these people (like those people hate gays/bisexuals), she simply said they were ignorant. And is she wrong? Nope.

As for the author's topic question: There is way more nudity and vivid sexual encounters in heterosexual movies that no one seems to notice.
That's very similar to what I've been trying to get across here.

I have nothing against this movie but I'm not in to flicks about gay cowboys. I'm a guy who remebers the "duke" John Wayne busting in to bars and beaten up the bad guys. I still like to think in the format of the old west as we used to know it with the good guys like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood beating the living daylights out of badguys and I really don't like the idea of homosexual cowboys messin the idyllic place up. But that's me so if you want to watch it do and if you enjoy that's your right but you'll never find me watching this film

Alright so I live in NC...not exactly the southern capital of the world but still pretty damn ignorant-as-hell-redneck. My mother is the manager at the local rental place. Brokeback Mountain has been rented out for weeks. Granted, mostly just women renting it and when their husbands have to rent it or return it they make it a point to say that it is for their wives. However, I am very proud of all the women in my small town. My dad was sort of forced into watching it (Mom and I watched in the living room where he was confined due to foot surgery) and denies it to everyone he knows and talks shit about it...but that's just the way he is and, as old as he is, his homophobic views will never change. That being said, I thought the movie was fairly good. My only problem with it was this - I thought, from the previews, that most of the movie would be spent on the mountain and they would work up to their actual physical relations...and then it was like bam right into it and most of the movie was spent otherwise. So that threw me off...though it was more realistic this way, I kind of would have enjoyed it more had they worked into the romance more on the mountain. As for the author's topic question: There is way more nudity and vivid sexual encounters in heterosexual movies that no one seems to notice. But I can understand how the first big box-office movie with big movie stars that everyone recognizes playing gay characters, including sex scens would cause more ruffled feathers than other movies. Granted, it is unfair that this is the case, but I'm sure everyone expected this to happen - including the director, writer, and actors. Brokeback Mountain is going to cause more scandal with its homosexual themes than any heterosexual soft porn to hit the shelves. Maybe one day, no one will blink an eye.

Lmao.. There is a *slight* possibility... There are a lot of flaws in what the critics call a relationship. For instance, they really only have sex. They really only hooked up after alcohol (the first time). They were on a mountain, very far from society. (This is for fucked up gayness). As for regular fucked upness, the movie dragged on for a while, and had odd twists in the story, and part of this score was derived from fucked up gayness.

I think he's gay. He doesn't want you to know he felt longing for Gyllenhall and Heath's relationship because he is oh-so-tempted by you and wouldn't know how to handle the situation. Had to say that. And why would you give it a two? I haven't heard of non-homophobes calling it "fucked up" to any extent.
