punk is not sumthin u brand either your punk or your not u dont tell ppl there not punk avril lavine suks though anyways punkshave your freedom of speech an not beining afraid to live an be diffrent but theres like alot of diffrent types of punk an anti flag rules

ppl,ppl,ppl...Why should we put music bands in a Catagory? & Every1 has a diff. opinion about whats punk... ok my stupid friend thinks punk is listening 2 Avril & GC HA! Avril Sux! & GC is pop it has a lil punk but there mostly pop... Do you think Linkin Park is punk? I don't think it is, my Dad thinks GC & Linkin Park is weird... & won't let me listen to the Sex Pistols(b-cus it has the word "Sex" in it & he thinks thre weird 2 & doesn't want me 2 turn gothic)... Does any1 have any sugestion on how I can get my Dad to let me listen 2 the music I want & dress how I want? I already talked 2 him about it & he still doesn't listen...

what a statement!!! I was out with my girlfriend last weekend in some store...I forgot. And she was looking for some clothes. After about 20 minutes she stops and goes "Everything in here is retro wanna be punk, I can't find one thing I would wear". I've noticed it too, it creeped up slowly, but this year it has jumped the shark!!!

how dare you insult joe strummer! You better be prepared for the consequences, because a LOT of people will be pissed off with that remark. Joe Strummer changed a lot of people's lives, including mine. It has helped me get over some dark periods in my life. And then ****s like you go and **** on a heroes grave with your fake so called punk bands i.e scum 41, bowling for **** and avril latrine.

punk to me is bands like The Exploited, Discharge, Total Chaos and Conflict. Bands with a real message, not bands who whine about how they got dumped boo hoo .

Some of you people are too far gone it's worthless to even try to explain the subject to you. Media and economy needed a new trend to make more money. They spit out tons of manufactured "bands"(oh yeah, and one little girl, avril) and now they're trying to sell everyone the clothes to go with the trend. The big dept.stores are all getting stocked with shirts that say things like "rock n' roll" or "punk (insert word that sounds right here)" everything is becoming black, plaid, ripped, and zippered. Alot of people go along with the media and believe in that conception of punk. It's disgusting.
You can't "find out" what punk is by going to a website or dressing oddly. It's a way of life. So go live a little, grow up, have that life changing year(or years), and maybe you'll discover true punk, maybe you won't. It doesn't really matter. Be yourself..and stop catagorizing people.

I don't know how the hell to difine bands into certain groups I just listen to music.

Ironically the Sex Pistols were manufactured.

Indeed punk is not dead, but it is mixed in with different types of music.

But let me say one thing. Avril, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, etc. are not punk. The clothes and or piercings doesn't prove anything. They're music is pop, and honestly for people to believe that Avril is punk must've been brainwashed after watching MTV. She has nothing better to do than to sit and come up with so many lies to cover up who she truly is. If you have to try that hard to classify yourself, might as well forget it.

What about Rancid?
Punk really is not dead, it has just been diluted in some parts and mixed with Ska and pop among other things, I suppose you could say the principles behind punk are detached from the music, I hardly ever hear anarchy and punk in the same sentance anymore, yet punk is again gaining in popularity......and bands like Sum,boxcar racer and yes, even poeple like Avril lavigne have contributed, so in a way they should not go uncredited.

I will admit I'm not good with names of singers and sometimes I'm not even good with band names neither but I have heard of Clash. So that song you mentioned, Amaris from them, I heard it and I liked it.

I didn't know the the lead singer's name was Joe Strummer and I didn't know he dead.

I'm sorry, I tend to get information like this late and like I said I NEVER really know the names of the singers in bands and such. However, I know songs and band names pretty well but other than that I'm a total and complete idiot when it comes to their real names and what is happening to them or did happen to them.

Yea, I feel bad.
