Joe was the lead singer for the band the Clash, which Bono from U2 said was the best band ever. He died on December 23, 2002. He was a punk pioneer. You know that song, Should I Stay or Should I Go? That was the Clash.

Uptown: Well, what can I say? Great minds think alike. I will admit, there is some good music around today, but I don't like the new punk. Good Charlotte, Avril Lavinge, New Found Glory. That's just not my taste in music. And if it's yours, then fine, great. But don't try and say that Avril Lavinge is the best songwriter in the world (especially since it doesn't even say who wrote the lyrics on her CD booklet thing. That was kind of suspicious, I thought.) or the Benji and Joel are even half as good as Joe on a bad day. Joe Strummer is a legend. A god. He is immortalized by his music. He is great. And no one today is as good as him, at least no one that I've heard.

amaris, you have the amazing ability to take words right out of my mouth.
the clash is true punk. i cried driving down to chicago over christmas when i found out strummer died. that was a sad, sad day.
i don't think anyone thought mcgowen would live through the 80's, much less the 90's. but hey, if you stop rocking, you stop living. (but his teeth...ugh!)

I dont think Avril isnt punk rock, but that doesnt mean she doesnt have a voice. She has talent. She may dress "punkish", but that's just what she likes to wear. I listen to punk rock a lot. Thats prolly all i listen to with a side order of some pop rock, and all sorts of other kinds of rock. Sometimes heavy metal, but thats only when i am in a bad mood. Okay, gotta question: in that song "The Girl All the Bad Guys Want", what do they mean when they talk about rap metal? Is that even what he says? okay...maybe i got a little off topic. God loves you!

god rest Joe Strummer , but hey, you can't say punk, is dead .... Shane McGowen is still kicking, though now with fewer teeth.. Who thought he’d live though the 1980s?
my mother was sort of into punk back in the 80s and once took me with her to a Pouges show and since then punk rock will always be drunken self-destructive irishmen singing fine songs mostly about whiskey. with punk I think is that its constantly evolving, no one can really pin it down, it began with backlash in the 70s and then changed into a sort of apathetic anger in the 80s, no one can really pin down when one bit of it died, and another was born.
the problem with all these pop bands they have no idea of the history or the richness of the music, from acts bluesy acts like the New York Dolls, though the Clash to the more glam acts like the Damned or Siouxsie & The Banshees, they just buy into the constant teenage angst market ( and you who ever said punk wasn’t about the music, your full of it, the music was what defined punk, it communicated the message and the feelings of people who had no other way to communicate those beliefs you talk about)
what about me, I wear my mom’s old doc martins, I cuff my pants up eight inches, I have Robert Smith hair. Most people consider me punk, I grew up with punk, but I’m just kid whos in it for the music. my politics are rarely in the music I listen to,
My that was an awfully long response for such an inane question

Everybody tends to think punk is about music...
PUNK IS ABOUT LIFE!
It's your beliefs and how you act upon them.
Why do you think the Sex pistols were called "punks?" Because they wanted anarchy for England and the rest of the world. Because they thought the queen's rule was facist.
It really has NOTHING to do with the clothes you wear or the music you listen to. It's your BELIEFS.
Just cause you listen to music doesn't mean you're punk. Punk is about your beliefs.

Do you even know what band Joe Strummer was in? No one compares to Joe Strummer. Get over it. And sorry to burst your bubble, but there is still a Joe Strummer. He lives on in his music. Just because he died doesn't mean he's vanished.

Punk is dead. It died with Joe Strummer. There's no point in anyone even trying to PRETEND like they are punk. Sex Pistols, the Clash, that was punk. That was good punk, with a purpose, not stupid girls with ties on singing horribly and pretending to skateboard and play guitar. No one today knows what punk is, because no one today listens to any good music. But I just thought I would share with you that punk has been dead ever since the death of Joe Strummer. Joe Strummer was a God and he was punk, and that's why it pisses me off when stupid tattooed guys try to pretend they're punk. Not only do they ****ing suck, but they are disrespecting Joe.

See, the thing is, NO ONE KNOWS what punk is. It's very elusive and if you know what punk is, you're the wisest person in the world. Now it's back to meditating on a mountain for me "OOOOOMM".

Punk is good to listen to.
However, I just realizes I mostly listen to alternative, alternative rock, rock, soft rock. Basically anything with rock in it. I also listen to classical, oldies, any kind of spanish music, music from other countries and country.
Bye n Have a nice day
