Personally, I think that television now-adays is disgusting. I am often offended while watching t.v. If I have children, I will definately be censoring the television programs that they watch. I was censored by my mother, and I appreciate it now. What are your thoughts? Are we protecting or harming or children if we censor what infulences they see by the media? Are there any things done by the media that offend you?

I agree. If I ever decide to have kids I want them to be able to grow up and be open-minded but also have different viewpoints and stand their ground on what they believe. If that means censoring shows that don't promote that then yes I would do it.

There really aren't alot of shows out there that are 'good' to watch anymore. It seems like all those shows have gone off of the air.

I think there's a boundry in censorship for children. I wasn't allowed to see excessively bloody or inappropriote material, but shows weren't rules out for ethics. Basically, if it was on during the day, I could watch it, and if it wasn't R, I could see it.

I think that was a good system because I learned what I liked and what I felt was good for me to watch. I had some friends who weren't allowed to see certain cartoons because their parents thought they promoted unethical themes. That was outrageous.

Censorship in these cases should be about protecting a developing mind from concepts it cannot handle (sex, drugs, vioence), not sheilding them from diffeerent veiwpoints.

The pointless reality shows are what I was referring to. I like a few, like Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. But who really cares if people can dance or not? I mean, seriously.

Do you mean reality shows like "So you think you can dance?" on Fox? (The commercial was just on...)

I think censorship can be okay. When something is edited so that it can be viewed by a larger audience, that is great, but the original should always be available for more mature audiences.

Censorship offends me. I see it all the time on network television, and I hate it.

When I was younger, I was able to watch whatever I liked, provided it wasn't rated R. My parents trusted me enough to make my own decisions, and I thank them for that now. Now I am able to watch whatever I see fit on television. The only things that offend me now are reality shows. But who isn't offended by those?

on things that offend me in the media we call them fox, nbc, abc, cnn, and geraldo rivera

and yes parents in general should censore what their kids can and cannot see it's just common sense you don't let a three year old see basic instinct for example
