Joey- The bands you cited, as well as Warped Tour, provide a very bad cross section of punk rock. After the 80s, punk suddenly became popular and a surge of pop-punk bands resulted. Punk became just another marketing tool, when the original idea was extremely anti-capitalist. Don't look at Green Day and Rancid, look at Operation Ivy, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, TSOL, D.O.A, Subhumans, Adolescents, Crass, Fugazi, and an a$$load of others. Then look at the independent record stores, the independent labels, and ten dollar shows in church basements. There are bands out there that are against capitalism (which reminds me that you need to get it through your skull that communist and anti-capitalist aren't the same thing) that don't use ticketmaster for their shows, don't play at expensive venues, don't charge 15$ for a record, and aren't on major labels. Green Day is a bad example, though they started out on Lookout! Records, which is independent. Rancid is a bad example, though they are still on Epitaph Records, which is independent.

If you don't support them, don't listen to them. I'm sure you'd listen if they praised God or Bush or something. And I don't whine when I see those stupid Gospel CDs being sold on TV, I just don't buy them. Same tactic with you.
Oh hell I love green day. I listen to their CD all the time. i'm not trying to silence them. i find it rather hilarious.

My mistake, it was the rolling stones who ruined it also, with that damn free concert in 1969 @ the altimont.

1966. And it wasn't just him. Artists lost their integrity once it was shown to them that they didn't have to play their own instruments, write their own songs or music, or have any talent aside from looking good in really tight jeans. Welcome to the post-Woodstock era. Where nothing's for free unless it's for publicity.

I think its funny when guys like Billy Joe (Green Day) spout their political views in their songs. It is a constant reminder of the bigotry, ignorance, and all around stupidity that there still is in this country.

*sigh* Many of the bands on the warp tour cared. Flogging Molly is not punk. They were on said tour. One of my favorite bands. If you actually listen to their new album, then you might have seen that only one song was extremly political. Others had mentions, but very few. And there are plenty of bands/artists that preach politics that are not punk. REM, Billy Bragg, Train. . . I'd say you need to get your facts straight before you quote an article, presumably stating your opinion, without a source. Now I'm going to get people who will say I shouldn't have responded. But who cares.
