I have started this thread in honor of freedomordeath . Do you think that hollywood has gone overboard with sex in the movies today. It seems that everything has a sex scene or sexual comedy. We dont seem to be able to make love stories without entering a sex scene. Why? are we that uncreative. I dont agree with sex in movies. But I am putting this up to see what you think.

I don't think Hollywood has gone overboard with sex...no more than usual at least. It's always going to be prevalent in movies because sex, as well as drugs and rock and roll, entertains and stimulates people, young and old. A concern would be that young people mistaken this entertainment with reality and try to imitate...but it's the parents' responsibility to make sure that they don't watch anything they're not mature enough to see.

It bothers me that it doesn't seem like reality in the teen movies. I mean, most of the time this 16 or 17 year old chick meets this guy, falls for him instantly, and decides to have sex with him. But, in reality, a lot of teens establish a relationship that is at least a couple months long before deciding to have sex PLEASE TELL THAT TO MY SISTER

No one would want to see that though. movies perfect everything which is why movies do not equal reality. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

So...while I don't see the point of having sex in movies, it doesn't bother me. Well, okay, I'd rather not sit through a sex scene with my parents but I have done that before. It bothers me that it doesn't seem like reality in the teen movies. I mean, most of the time this 16 or 17 year old chick meets this guy, falls for him instantly, and decides to have sex with him. But, in reality, a lot of teens establish a relationship that is at least a couple months long before deciding to have sex - many that surround me wait for it to be a six months to a year relationship before having sex or aren't even on planning to have sex before marriage. Also, it makes sex look totally romantic and perfect....when, in actuality, I'm sure a lot of teens are in the backseat of a car, trying to figure out how to use a condom in the dark, and wanting to make sure they do it fast so they don't get caught. Plus, the girl always has an orgasm...but if you are a 15-17 year old guy or even a girl "in the know" then you know that, especially if the guy is a virgin, he will probably reach climax long before the girl and the girl probably won't be satiated until they've had sex a few more times and gotten in the swing of things, so to speak. So I think the sex is probably not necessary but the only thing that bothers me about sex in movies is the fact that it is not modeled after reality.

As long as the children weren't doing anything sexual, that's very unscandalous. Now if you're referring to the teen actors in Eurotrip, point taken.

You just said "privates" you dope. There are lots of buttocks too, more so young male butts. I don't understand how some movies get away with what could be considered child pornography.

I don't have any problems with sex or sexual jokes in movies but I just wish they would avoid showing the actual sex organs (that sounds lame, but I'm not going to say privates). There's no need for it to actually show for us to get what's going on. And wow, so much breast in movies these days. Sometimes I want to watch a movie with my parents or my little sister and out of the blue there's a nipple in the middle of the screen. I understand that sex can make a movie more interesting or lead to a plot twist, but when I was younger, on TV the necking adults would just go into a room and close the door. I like that approach, lol. You know what's happening but it's still appropriate viewing for kids (or older kids depending on how you stand on that). When I'm watching a movie and an insignificant character does a nude scene (example: the extras in Eurotrip) I always feel bad for this actor who has to get naked to make it into a single movie frame. I mean, her parents might want to watch it... I really pity her parents. Am I the only one who does that? LOL, probably.

Me neither, actually. I just don't usually get into many. I don't know where Chocolat was made, but I like that one and I don't think it has any outright "sex" but it was great all the same. Foreign films are rather hard to come by in my area (home) but I like that my current area (college) is more diverse and has those opportunities.

Then you've seen the bad ones. I've never seen a downright terrible foreign film.

That's why I'm into foreign films. A lot are great, better than Hollywood films, and have no sex.
A lot are TERRIBLE though, ha. Sex hardly ever adds anything to the movie. You can show passion and love MUCH more powerfully through other actions. It's like the difference between saying "they love eachother" and showing through some act or sacrifice just how much they do. Typical movie sex scenes, especially extended ones, just dont' do it for me. It's ham handed and totally unsubtle.
