i know for myself music has always made me work better. ive tested myself. like when im studying i found if i listen to music [specific kinds] i do better on the test than when i dont listen to music. i use to always listen to music in my access classes [classes with comps] and i always did better in those classes. im a junior and ive been listenin to music while doing "school work" since like 4th grade or maybe even before. if teachers would allow students to EARN the privaledge of listening to music in class [except durrin periods where the student needs instrustions or needs to be taught a new skill] then i seriously bet that grades all around would improve. as for me and my friends, we will continue to listen to music any way we can because WE KNOW it helps with our school work.

I understand how a teacher may have personal classroom rules, but it should not be a school-wide ban.
I think that we should be able to listen between classes, at lunch, break, afterschool,... AND during the roll call, or cool down period of class.
If the schools were to give students this freedom, they would (hopefully) step up to the plate and show the teachers and admin some respect by controlling their own use. ie. NOT during lectures, tests, quizzes, AND announcements.

Give the students a chance to show some maturity(esp. in high school), we are supposed to be preparing for adult life, you know.

I love music.. I wish we could listen in school. My administration is pretty cool with cell phones iPods etc but if they see it in class they take it basically... except music helps me work i think they should understand that i get it not during a test but wtvr.

so why are the pulling music and art classes out of schools?

at certaint school teachers and adminstrators won't let you because the do think you're there to learn. the only this is the teachers that let you listen to it don't really care if you pass or fail. one reason they won't let you is since they couldn't listen to music in school they don't think we should.

no matter what school you go to there are gunna be some teachers that will let you listen to your ipod/mp3 player aslong as it doesnt disturb the class or they are giving a lecture case in point my french 2 teacher lets me get on here sometimes lets me watch videos and listen to music... were as my other teachers dont and guess what the school i go to doesnt allow electronics in class rooms at all but who cares and one of my freinds (drawing blank on state) his school allows the students to listen to music the entire day because it "keeps them from talking"

depending on your taste of music, it has been proven that music calms you down, and releases endorphins(a natural feel good drug that your body creates, its also a natural pain killer too) into your system and helps you relax. when your relaxed, you think more clearly and you obviously do better. music 1, school system 0. the introduction of music would probably also decrease the amount of fights and other bad things that happen at school

I think that teachers and schools should allow music to be played as long as the teacher is not in lecture and the students are completeing bussy work. I understand why it would be considered a distraction for some schools.

You're supposed to study in school. Which means you should be studying in study hall, too. Even if you haven't any homework.

Well...because the volume that people have their headphones up...other students can hear it.

I know that music makes you think better but it is a distraction. You can't listen to music and the teacher at the same time. If it were just while you were working individually or having free time it would be ok. The problem with that is that there are some kids that would not only listen to it during those times. It would also be too much work for the teachers to control the use of the cd players and stuff. It would also take a lot of time out of the class time to get all these things out and then put them up.

I personally think that we should be allowed to listen to music as long as we have headphones on and that they aren't up too loud. I mean, during breaks and study halls and stuff we should be allowed. As long as it isn't during class time, I don't see what the big deal is. We aren't allowed at our school, but most of have them in our bags and stuff for when we get on the busses. It's stupid to me because as long as you don't use them during class you can still learn what you have to. Maybe one day they will change the rules. I doubt it, but there is always a chance.

My school allows it everywhere, including the classroom, as long as the teacher isn't talking. Go Iowa.
