Do think it is righ that artists like jewl and others are selling out to sell records. Jewl used to be a really nice singer/guitar player who sang ballods about life and poetry. But Now in her new video intuition she is tottaly way to sexy. Everyone knows that sex sells but is it that important to throw away all your morals to do this. I don't know what you think but I liked her better the old way. i like the song intuition and the message it gives but the video is just wrong.well what do you think? and what other stars are doing it that you know of. Well I think I have said enough lol Avriel

I think it's wrong...I mean, if u're going to act and wear clothes that aren't what u really are, go be an actor or something...no need to **** off everyone and gain some more fans by showing skin. Jewell use to be good and authentic in her own style and her own way of showing ppl of her unique definition of music. But I guess ppl change...Anyways, money isn't suppose to be the issue, b/c all u need is some food, a place(doens't need to be a mansion, yunno.) and some cds. ^_^ -Rhia

I think some artists definitely sell out and that it's definitely wrong. Music is about music, melodies, harmonies, it;s not about taking off your clothes. I dont listen to pop music anymore because it's all rap and all about sex, which I dont agree with. So I listen to country ( I know it sounds dorky). But even in country music it gets like that sometimes. The now pop-artist Leann Rimes used to be a country singer, but now she wears less clothes and took the morals out of her songs and calls herself star. Right.

Alot of artist are sell outs sadly but there are some who arent . i am a proud fan of Mario and i dont think he is a sellout. Some artists have no talent but they take off some clothes and instantly become a hit which makes it harder for real artists then those real artists either fall off or begin to sellout like Alicia Keys she is a tru artist who hasnt made a hit single in a while becuz of some non talented artists. but if the fans of real arists dont buy the cds and albums of sellouts real artist will be alot better of

There is no such thing as selling out in the music business. The entire thing is based upon the concept of making money, just like any other business. And just because one band or another says, "It's about the music," doesn't mean they won't refuse their next check. They need to eat just like the rest of us.

quote: today everyone is a sell out to someperson or another.
I don't exactly agree with this. I believe that almost every 'mainstream' artists does. But the good bands, the really good bands (mostly jam band type). the ones that have huge followings and make all money through concerts not through record sells, the ones that don't care if you download music, don't sell out. True these are the types of bands where you have to look around for them or ask someone else but they are amazing and have their own little community built up around them.

"selling out" has been used way too much in the music business today... it has no meaning anymore to me. today everyone is a sell out to someperson or another. people used to say green day sold out because they signed on to a record deal same with bands like good charlotte and sum 41. changing your appearance to become more sexy is a different thing, its more like selling your body. musicians, and i state that word losely...very losely, like britney, christina, and jewel changed their appearance to "sexify" their music to make it sell. its not a good thing and it never will be in my eyes, its more disgusting than anything else.

Phish, OAR, Ben Harper, and Jack Johnson play jam rock kind of music sort of like the Grateful Dead did. They aren't that mainstream but they all sell out every concert and play in HUGE musical festivals around the country and the world.

I totally think artists do sell out to sell records. I don't think it is right at all. Remember when Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera first came out? They were named "pop princessess." Now look at them. They are getting way more media attention if they strip or become "Dirrty". I have seen Jewel's change in her new video and it really proves that sex sells. Thanks to that song her album was able to debut at No. 1 for the first time. I just hope that the music industry will be able to welcome more people like Alicia Keys and Michelle Branch.

A lot of mainstream artists are selling out but there are still wonderful musicians out there. The Grateful Dead never sold out, they were simply amazing, and some of them are still touring. Dave Matthews does do a few "pop" songs for radio but his live show is still classic. Artists like Phish, OAR, Ben Harper, and Jack Johnson aren't selling out and they are still making it big.

yeah, alot of singers once they become popular then they change thier looks, thiers songs and everything...alot of singers that started out christian singers and once they get mainstream, they deny it...it is wrong...fame should not change someone and if they do it is sad and if they don't, i respect them...
