I'm a movie fanatic. I like to watch at least one movie a week. I really need more recommendations though. Now while big movies like Spiderman, Hidalgo, Van Helsing can be entertaining, they are easy to come by and mediocre to void in the way of any depth. Movies that balance both action and truly great or interesting filmmaking instead of just a bad plot, sealed with a big actor and stamped with a huge Hollywood action budget, are hard to come by these days.

Movies that are interesting; they have either good or unique filmmaking, good acting, and pretty good plots, plus some meaning. I want more like these. Any recommendations?

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but it you want good movies, either find some Best Picture winners or grab your stuffed killer rabbit and watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Best movie ever. Second only to Rat Race in funniness. Of course, you're probably talking about more serious films. Can't help you there, sadly.

*bump*

We need a movie board again.

Like TaurusGirl said, watch Jackie Brown.

Yes I do need IFC Celtic. Not to mention cable in general.

Max (interesting!)
Pulp Fiction
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Pianist
Amelie
Shall We Dance? (the original Japanese version)
Man On Fire (perhaps not great, but good)
He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not (French movie)
Moonstruck (GREAT dialogue!)
When Harry Met Sally (ALSO great dialogue!)

I know there's more, so I'll post again if I can think of them....

Donnie Darko.

It's my favorite movie of all time. It's such an intellectual movie.

-----"""Boondock Saints"""

Savage, I've seen that! Pretty good movie, WIllem Defoe is hilarious in it, especially when he goes undercover as a prostitute.

Thanks for all the good recommendations...I'm atually gonna rent and watch some of these.

I recommend:
-Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
-Donnie Darko
-Gorillas in The Mist
-Hero
-Fight Club
-Ghost in the Shell
-Tomorrow Never Dies
-Indochine
-Glass House
-Princess Mononoke
-Cheaters
-Alien, Aliens, Alien3, Alien Resurrection
-Run Lola Run (Lola Rennt)
-Amélie
-The Animatrix
-Spirited Away

Ghost in the Shell is soooo good. It's an anime film from 1994, and it's incredible. It's about a genetically altered cyborg policewoman in the future. Rumor has it many ideas from The Matrix were based off things in this movie.

*Moulin Rouge (my ALL-TIME favorite movie...can't promise you'll like it though. people either loved it or hated it.)
*Y Tu Mama Tambien (in Spanish w/ subtitles...a little sexual at points, but still has really good lessons about friendship)
