Well from my view the lyrics are rather mediocre as is the insturmentation, not that they aren't competent at either, they are but they aren't do anything really amazing music wise. the thing that really makes them stand out is the political charge they give those lyrics. You want rock bands check out the bands that have been around for ever and still have fans in our age range. for example Kiss, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Posion, Triumph, Queen. I feel bad about my posting earlier I was in a rather bad mood at the world in general and Green Day in particuler as my sibs had been blasting that one anti-war anthem "holiday" or something all day so I went jihad on them and by extension you especially with you(jimmy) using "bush supporter" as an insult, political views are not something we try to raz on around here, we challenge those views and argue incessantly about it but don't insult it. Also as to the problem of Bush you want to solve as you say in your profile just wait he'll be gone in two years and we can vote someone new to the white house and with our political system he'll be a moron to wether he's a Democrat, Republican or Communist

I know how ridiculus I appear. Green Day is smarter because they've been songwriters for 17 years. So what makes a decent band, anyway if Green Day is mediocre?

Unfortunately, Green Day's songs don't describe their lives. They're merely songwriters. I have a proposition for you. Replace "Green Day" with "Jesus" or "Allah" and "songs" with "teachings" and take a look at how ridiculous you appear. The thing is...Green Day stands out because they happen to be much more intelligent than their faux-punk counterparts. In their genre, they're a decent band. However, in the grand scheme of music, they're mediocre.

I'm not anorexic, but bulimic. I hate my body, so I poke holes in it (piercings) and tattoo myself. I have scars on my wrists and I am the biggest outcast at my school. Probably one of the biggest reasons why I like Green Day is because their songs do describe my life and past/present experiences. I love Green Day and would jump off the empire state building for them. (That sounds pretty stupid, I know but it's true)

Wonderful. I was nicknamed 'Jimmy' before the release of American Idiot, after listening to it, it just gives my 'name' meaning. And I was already on the verge of suicide.

I don't hate you. I do doubt I hate anyone. But just take a look at yourself. Your handle is StJimmy, a Green Day song. You start a thread titled Green Day. You say you live for Green Day and would kill yourself if they broke up because you have nothing else to live for. You make yourself out to be a Class-A conformist.

I'm sorry. And I wore ties and eyeliner way before I knew Green Day existed. I'm sorry so many people hate me for just saying a few words online.

You kind of people make me sad. Asking me to define conformist would be like asking Celtic to define sadist. There is no need to appease your insatiable desire for attention. But I would like to point out that I never did like Bush, and I actually love Green Day. But because you wear a tie and eyeliner, you are conforming with the hundreds of other teenagers who do the exact same thing because they like Green Day. Simply, by saying you are a non-conformist, you are conforming. If the irony doesn't hit you like a bouncer brandishing a bat, then truly you will never get anything I have said in this post and you might as well just ignore it. Good day.

I never knew this would happen, either. I knew some people would go and say something bad, but I didn't figure it would happen like this.

I am appalled all this has been started thanks to a Green Day thread. I happen to like Green Day, and if you don't like Green Day, then woop-dee-doo. There is no law stating you must be a Green Day fan.

Green Day is two words I don't pretend. I fucking hate liars For your fucking information, I am going to be an american in a couple of months, and I am allowed to have an opinion of other political matters but I don't care about politics. I have nothing against americans, in fact I find most of them cool, but for some Bush is the right leader for america. Just a big idiot representing the whole idiot population (with some exceptions) Just to let you know, it's people like you who make me think Bush should stay president, just to make it true that he's representing the majority of america. And when I come to live in America, remember, I am the minority.

Man, what a crappy purpose. Mind you, I wear neckties and lotsa eyeliner, only because I wanna stand out form all the anorexic bimbos at my school.

That's because combining neckties and eyeliner supposedly yields a cool product. But hey, it sold, and that's her purpose.

Of course she sucks. It's Avril Lavigne. If she covered any other song it'd suck a whole lot more than the original, too.

Yeah, not to fond of 'When I come around,' but have you head Basket Case sung by Avril Lavvigne?! She makes it seem like Green Day are gods compared to her version.
