i see it as ok if your just doing a song or two but if its the whole cd it's a different story. Believe it or not the economy relies on the music business too and if they're not doin good neither are we. Face it.

My thoughts on free downloads okay here's the thing. What if you only like one song from a band you don't wanna have to go out and pay $20.00 for a cd just for one song. That's hard earned cash going down the drain. And another thing why was Metallica sueing people for downloading their music. Why should it matter to them they're MILLIONARES (sp?).I think that downloading music effects a small band more then it does and will effect a big band.

If the main website for KaZaa distribution was shut down, I don't think it would make much of a difference. Friends could give friends copies of KaZaa, people could put copies of the KaZaa installer on their servers for people to download, people could transfer the installer via instant messenging software, and so on.
As far as I know you can't really shut the filesharing network down either... the network is entirely decentralized because it only consists of the people who use the software, so there isn't just one server that they could shut down to stop all the filesharing.

Why don't they simply shut-down the Kazaa website so no one else can download the software and P2P networking crap?

The music industry can't stop file piracy without going to extreme measures that would alienate a vast majority of the consumers, in my opinion. At the moment there are over 3,000,000 users on the KaZaa network alone, there's no way the RIAA would ever be able to sue every single one. So, they file a few lawsuits as a scare tactic and get some publicity.
The music industry needs to learn to adapt and change with rapidly evolving technology, instead of fearing change and clinging to their old ways.

I think that just as long as your not selling them to people to try and make a profit off of them then it should be legal.

ok heres my bro's oppinion he says that the we should keep the free downloads because the freakin artist practically get payed anyway and you know that commercial that shows all the people who work with the record companies and crap like that. they say that we should stop piracy when it is being worked on every day of our freakin lives we are all burning cd's that we borrow from our friend's and we possibally go overboard and just do watever that hell we want so my bro's oppinion is we should keep that free downloads and stop suein' the butts off others and just deal with it but in my oppinion we should stop it because its stealing too ya know! null
