I think we all need to look at people overseas making our shoes and getting paid only $3.00 a day it's ridculous. But we continue to wear so maybe we can find some way to help them because I still feel you can wear whatever you want. But we still should help them because it isn't right to keep supporting this. Many celebrites have tennis shoes made overseas so what does that say about them.

i agree it is wrong... when people stop buying products from places using sweatshops the idea is that the people will work at small jobs to pay the bills while getting job training on their off hours so soon they can move up to a better paying job so their kids can go to school and get a better job and the cycle keeps going... a bunch or nonprofit organizations are starting to organize things like that in countries with sweatshops... see now its like an endless cycle the parents must work at low paying jobs because they parents did so they couldn't get an education cuz they had 2 start working at an early age and so on so.... with the job training they can get better paying jobs so kids wont be forced into low paying jobs at the age of 8... it is really the only way to break that cycle one generation has to start it though.

If your shoe or product is not making someone have a good life then don't you think that's wrong. Yes, it is I said we need to find a way to get workers better conditions so that people can still buy the product but not have to worry about the worker not getting what they need. thanks.

Rockrgirl is right.......but I don't think it's right that they get paid only 3 dollars or less than that for making shoes or anything else to wear. I bet they work longer hours than we do but we get paid more because we went to college. I bet some want to go to college but they are enable to because they are being paid a small average of the money or they don't know any English to go to school. If an immgrant comes to America not knowing English, odds are, they will be screwed big time. This reminds me of the Shockyards that they had in the early 1900s, there was so many workers working just to get paid about 1 dollor for hours of work and working in the shockyards wasn't easy work neither but they kept going and the worse part is that many Americans mistreated them Well Bye N have a nice day Cindy

What will sweatshop laborers do when people stop buying those products? Has anyone really figured out how to actually improve life for those workers? I mean, just not buying the stuff isn't going to lead directly to better quality of life, is it? Won't the laborers just be out of work? How does that help them?

I think that it has nothing to do with the rappers the fans make their money and they buy their cds.i dont care if their a billionaire their entitled to do whatever they want with their money.it has nothing to do with them because kids are poor thats their familys problem. And alot of rappers do give to charity and kids.just because you dont hear it all of the time doesnt mean they dont.and you also have to look at it like this alot of rappers have kids and a family and their first priority is to take care of their family.so i disagree that it is the rappers fault thatthey dont give their money away.

Actually, there are sweatshops in the US too. And, some companies, not to name any names *cough A&F cough* have their workers sew on the Made in USA labels. Sick isn't it?

I know this doesn't happen in all countries I just wanted to put it out there because we are talking about this stuff in my Social Justice Class. I know some of my clothes are name brand not all because I can't afford all that stuff anyway. Also New Balance tennis shoes are made here in the U.S. so you can wear those to. But again thanks.

A country being on the list doesn't necessarily mean that the product was made using sweatshop labor... something being made in Sri Lanka doesn't automatically mean that it was made in a sweatshop, it just means that it's a possibility.

I checked out the site Proteus gave below, and although I usually don't buy those brands anymore (used to buy some...), almost ALL of the clothes and other items I have are made in the countries on the list! How depressing...

You could always just choose not to support brands that use sweatshop labor... go here for a list of brands you should avoid. For shoes, I suggest Vans... they're comfortable and pretty durable (the pair I have has lasted 2+ years so far). And I know this will break some of your hearts, but Tommy Hilfiger and some other "preppy" brands are on the list. Anyway... just try to stay away from major brands.
