it seems these days that there isn't an original thought to be found anywhere these days.eveyone seems to be following what they see. what happened to individuality ,voicing your own opinions. i go to school everyday and it seems like everyone looks the same talks the same and never breaks out. its time to end the brainwashing we need to think for ourselves not listen to what some stupid billboard tells us.

i live in newark in england, everyone here looks the same, its really disturbing. they all wear the same things and speak the same way. they listen to the same music and do the same things. its like theyve all been designed to be the same and i hate it. what the hell happened to being unique? why the hell would you want to be a sheep and follow what everyone else does? its so sad. i'm different to them lot, and they know it, not only that they take the p**s out of me for being different, for listening to linkin park and marilyn manson, for wearing something different to them, for acting different. i cant stand it they make me feel ill. Frown all teenagers today follow the crowd . what a waste of life.

Ok, so i'm from a tiny town with like 1,000-ish kids in my school. freshman year, i was offered the chance to go to a big school downtown and had to shadow some chick for a day. i came from this place where everyone dresses the same and acts the same and talks the same, and all of the sudden, here i am standing in this school where the punx are REALLY punk and it's mostly the hippies and the sstoners who smoke, (as opposed to, like, everyone at my school). It was the weirdest thing ever, but at the same time it was super-cool. instead of all these crazy mindless drones wandering around the halls, all dressed like their clique dictates, there were people who acted however they wanted to. It was kind of a "waoh", moment, you know? anyways, the point of that was that in some schools, there is no individuality. so how do we bring it back?

I have to add my two cents:

the media doesn't affect the youth of today that are worth keeping around. Anyone who is going to follow what TV, movies, or music says isn't worth the fresh air.

it is really true that people all seem to be the same, but there are still many individual people (especially at my school) and the truth is that they really are more fun to be around!

True, unless the shooters actually say, I was inspired by the music to take a bunch of lives, you can't say. But music holds alot of power for some people. For me, the right song can change my mood. It's not completely impossible that the killer's motivation was taken from the music.

Individuality seems to be scarce these days. I think individuality is a cool thing, I think MOST people would agree, but most just conform because they don't know how to be individuals. They say no two people are completely alike, different names, heights, eye colors (natural), hair colors (natural), skin tones, face structures, talents, I could go on and on. I can't comprehend why people try to dress and act the same. It seems people desire more to be accepted than to be shunned because they are themselves. But why does being yourself have to be a bad thing?

i hate this. society says "walk this way, talk this way, this is who you should be." its crap! because then *** tells us to be who you are. Some people dont even know hwo they are anymore cuz they've followed others for so long. its quite annoying actually.

I completely agree. The way parents and our society as a whole will look for anyone too blame but themselves. . .reminds me of a couple of five year olds pointing fingers at each other when asked "who did it". . .can we all say sccaaappeegooaattt.

Sometimes it's stupid, people need to be themselves. Not like everyone else. They need to say what they really think, not what people expect them too. The whole make up, mini skirt thing is stupid too, why do most girls want to look like ****s? It makes no sense. People just need to be themseleves.

I have a dream.... A dream that someday everyone will be able to express themselves without having to wear makeup when you're 4, much less a miniskirt, and that everyone will think for themselves, instead of just letting everybody else's ideas just walk all over them.
If we started with just that- imagine what could happen!

I went out to eat with my mom one day and while we were waiting for our food I saw a four year old girl wearing make-up, fake nails, hoop earings, stokings, a t-shirt that said "leave him for me," heals and a mini skirt. she was calling some other kid a b****.now my guess is that the media had some effect on this little girl. if this is what the youth is being "brainwashed" to be then what kind of society are we living in? I know the media influences everyones thought on so much, whether its on beauty drugs or sex but I think we're to stupid to see that we have become a society in which too many people follow the herd rather than to make their own decisions.

I agree! I mean people these days seem to think that all those things we see in the media are so nice even if it isn't. Its like, most of the stuff the media is doing is to promote bad influence.. but i guess that is what is happening all over the world too. I am just wondering why no one really seems to care and they just continue to do things that can promote bad influence even if they know its wrong... like drugs, indecent clothing, being rude, not respecting elders, cursing and stuff.

Jamaica, you may be bombarded with stuff, but at the end of the road it's your choice whether you want to be that person or not, or to what degree you want to be what the media says, etc. You can't blame the media for world destruction, blame ourselves.

That stopped happening mostly in the Renaissance. Now we're just drifting back.... read A Clockwork Orange (I know I brag on and on about this book)... I think it's how we'll end up...

There is a defference between making an educated decision and being codesending. YOu can agree or disagree with a billboard, just like any other media.
