A lot of us complain about the war in Iraq and how Bush handled the whole situation. We also discuss how we shouldn't have gone to war at all, but all of these are pretty much meaningless because we did go to war. This discussion is about what do you think the best option is as of right now? If you were the President, how would you deal with our situation in the Middle East?

For all you people that want to protect the Kurds, I want one good reason why they shouldn't be exterminated.

The Kurds are the original Iraqi insurgents, prior to the fall of Saddam... saddam gassed them because they were a disuption to the government, they are one small minority of a largly sunni and shia country... they will not conform, they believe they should have their own country... well I saw we give it to them and then let the turks annhialate them.

Yeah the three Iraqi states are mixed muslim and one where all the Kurds are so the muslims don't have to deal with them this is where we should put bases cause the kurds freakin love us (see link below for more on this)

Elaborate please? I don't know if there is a solution. I'd seriously look into dividing the country, at this point. Protect the Kurds too.

It's kinda difficult to hold a whole country with only a select few (snipers). Snipers are just one man, they can't cover a whole country. You use snipers in special operations when the one bullet could change the tide of battle or an operation. Aircraft are great but limited. First they need intelligence and targeting data, and that comes from infantry. And then they don't carry enough ordanance to wage a complete war. Ground troops (army and marines) are the basis of holding a country. Airforce and Navy is there to support them.

What would I do? Really get serious about this. This would be political suicide but it'd get the job done....execute terrorists and other people who violently attack US troops. That'd stop them in a heartbeat. Just get mean dog nasty, the warped mentality of the terrorists would respond to that power, not touchy feely crap.

also you can't hold land with airpower and a few snipers you need Armor and Infantry, Basic tactics since the start of modern combat (the Civil War btw)

What about rebuilding Iraq?

I would pull out all the ground troops, leave snipers, and use aerial attack. It makes sense.
