Aww, but the filet o' fish is the only thing at McD's that I can eat... their burgers are too much like shoe leather. Though, I must say, that Big Mac with wasabi sauce sounds kinda interesting... if I ever go to Japan, I'm gonna get me one o' those.

icequote: Okay, you can't possibly say that American media isn't by far the most popular, it just is! And our fast food chains are huge all over the world too.
I just said there is pretty much no other country who has a focus on entertainment like the USA. So it would make sense...that I agree with you. Fast food - Ok have you ever eaten Wasabi Peas? Maybe you have...but if not...you can get them at McDonalds in Japan. Yes McDonalds(a free enterprise) sold some franchises to rich Japanese men in Japan. On the menu...sure you'll find burgers...you'll also find food that is very ethnic to that region. And again...yeah it's an American company, but Americans didn't bring it to Japan and we didn't force Big Macs with wasabi sauce down anyones throat... Can we stop talking about McDonalds...I hate it there and haven't eaten that stuff...in years. BLAH! Ok people can chose to see things the way they want. Just like Americans were refusing to eat at French restaurants because of Iraq. What do you think I did? I ate at them more...because those people are American Citizens trying to make a living selling food that has nothing to do with France then style. Just like in Arab countries that were torching McDonalds in their countries. Good job, you just lost a countrymen his life savings and took away 20 peoples jobs!! Way to advance your people...YEEE HAAWWW!!! All I try to do is weigh the evil and get the facts, it's not wrong for you to think something...just understand it fully. I don't think America has some evil plot to rule the world...it's capitolist businessmen trying to make a buck and helping some other countries economies at the same time.

I never calaimed it did matter but I thought it was pretty interesting. The States has more people but the same figures for PEI gives people about 4 metres squared but people in Nunavut over 74 kilometres squared. It changes in every state. Canadians themselves cross the country get 321 metres squared each. I'm mostly just messing around.

quote: you have to consider alot when considering the global market.
Hey, guess what, every kid in Europe grows up listening to American celebrities like J Lo and watching American movies, like Star Wars, Spiderman, things like that. Yeah, they have their own stars, but any but America is a huge part. Most bands that are big here are big in Germany (hint hint, this is an EXAMPLE). Ditto for the movies. Okay, you can't possibly say that American media isn't by far the most popular, it just is! And our fast food chains are huge all over the world too. I just think it's kinda sick that our culture is "invading" the cultures of other countries. There are some good things about it, there are some bad. But it just seems wrong to me to go over to Italy, and instead of them talking about Italian stuff and eating biscotti, they're sitting there singing Britney Spears songs in English, eating Burger King.

quote: Relax. What is it to you how much ICELAND loves America? It's great that you feel such a sense of national pride, but people can have their own opinions.
Opinions are futile if you don't know what you are talking about. And patriotism or not, this is where I live...and I am pretty sick of one sided anti-american rhetoric. People tell us Americans to listen to news around the world...time others took their own advice. quote: Canada is one of the G7 too, you know.
I do now, I was just responding off the top of my head, it wasn't a well researched argument. Just stating what I knew. DAMN CANADIANS!!! Hockey is everywhere...they are going to take over the world!!!

quote: our movies and music and fast food is not that great
Actually, I disagree. The best television we get over here is American (there are some cool British shows too, but they're few & far between in comparison). Credit where credit's due, no other country matches America for entertainment, although overly-formulaic hollywood blockbusters, designed purely to make money rather than try anything new or interesting, can get on my nerves. Also, you get crazy patriots everywhere. Even here, where patriotism is pretty dead. One of my friends is obsessed with the royal family, and wishes he lived in world war 2 so he could join the RAF and fight for England. I might respect his pride in his country except it does make him something of a racist bigot on top of it. He is a strange strange boy… Anyway, back on topic, you've still got a good point. Globalization is what causes a lot of hostile feelings as it does sometimes feel like America is taking over the world. However, fair enough. The USA worked its way to the top, may as well have the cake and eat it. Billy: Relax. What is it to you how much ICELAND loves America? It's great that you feel such a sense of national pride, but people can have their own opinions. Blind patriotism doesn't help anyone, least of all the American people. It might seem like they're p*ssing on the parade, but less fervently patriotic citizens are less biased, are more likely to see where America's weaknesses lie and that is no bad thing. What if you're making a huge mistake? Then you need someone to say 'now wait a minute' rather than 'YEAH! USA, NUMBER ONE!' ICELAND cares about his country and how it represents itself in the world. Isn't that a form of patriotism? Bex
