i know that in the airforce you have like 6 different shops that work at AMMO and in the navy, we have G-3. Bomb Build-up and Assembly. i was in Guam at Andersen AFB and it just cracks me up seeing how many people the AF has to do a job. You want a YELLOW RFI tag? you have to go to building 123. You want a RED NRFI tag? you have to go to building 124. it just confuses me all to hell. in the navy. we have station weapons (thats where AO's go for shore duty) and we do everything. Bomb buildup and assembly? yup. Weapons Inspecion and Quality Assurance? yup. its wierd how much different each branch is when it comes to the storage and handling of weapons.

so you can't draw and MK-84 and add a Paveway III pack to it on site?

It depends on where it is in production. Generally they go from the bomb shop where they make all the parts, then they ship them out (via fed ex) to other bomb shops. there they attach the fuze and guidance system per orders from bases that need them and ship them out (via fed ex)

So what do you do? Do you actually attach a guiding system to a bomb or does it come that way? You got me kinda confused.

Mk series is general purpose dumb bombs... they can consits of snake-eyes and ballutes... so when I call someone snake-eye on here, I'm calling them retarted, because snake-eye bombs are retarded (slowed by a chute)

And Blu is just like Mk except with a high density tip to it which allows it to penetrate concrete, made for underground facilities and bunkers...

Laser guided are the Paveway guidence system, JDAM are GPS

Mavericks can be Electro-optical, IR, ARM, or laser and those are the AGM series

Okay that makes sense but waht does MK stand for and BLU? what are those weapons respective weights? and what is a JDAM? and finally an LGB is a Laser Guided Bomb right? but wouldn't that still be a GBU designation?

Ok intro to bomb making theory 101

Most bombs are made from one of 6 basic General Purpose bombs... Mk-81, Mk-82, Mk-83, Mk-84, Blu-31, and Blu-109

Now take that bomb and add a guidance system to it... and it becomes a GBU or Guided Bomb Unit

So your guidance systems are Paveway II, Paveway III, and JDAMs.

So then you take any of the GP bombs, strap put on a guidanc system and you have a bomb with a GBU designator.

Then you decide what kind of fuze you want and where you want it, and that makes up your bomb.

So the answer to my question was a GBU-24 Smile
